I'm looking for some suggestions or leads on looking for an LTL or local job around San Antonio.
I have around 17 months of CDL experience, all hauling crude oil with the same company. I've applied for a few jobs online, but from my experience that doesn't usually get a response. So this week I'm going to start going in person and asking around. So far for my list of companies to try, I have:
OD, FedEx freight, R+L, Central, YRC, Con-Way, and Estes. I applied to Southeastern, and was told they're not hiring until the first of the year(Even though they have a job posting on Indeed.)
If I have no luck with LTL I'm open to food service, or any other local jobs. I will also try the Austin market if I have no luck with that.
Thanks, guys!

No experience with that kinda stuff but what about like united rentals delivering equipmet or local equipment dealers If your loking for local work

Since you have experience hauling crude, why not try and haul fuel? Kinda like LTL where you will be making multiple stops a day.

Southeastern told me it's their slow time of the year right now. So, I'm not sure if it's slow for everyone until after the holidays? If so, I may not have a chance right now. -
A big reason I'm trying LTL first is because of the weekends off. If LTL doesn't work out for me I'll look into hauling fuel.

Understandable, but even getting on with a LTL company doesn't necessarily guarantee weekends off. Being bottom man on the board has a way of messing up plans like that. Not trying to deter you, just being honest.
It is coming into the slow time of the year where most companies do not hire much... It still doesn't hurt to call around and see. You never know what might happen. -
Costal Transport has a 'drivers' sign out front I think. Off Ackerman Rd and I10 behind pilot. Chalk Mountain Services.

I am new to the LTL world right now, so I haven't seen it with my own eyes, but from what I've heard, freight drops off dramatically at the first of the year. So most LTLs at smaller terminals will be keeping staffing levels where they are until closer to spring in order to keep most of their drivers working through the slow times. I always heard that March is the best time to try and get on in LTL. Get hired early and have seniority over the rest of the drivers they hire the rest of the year. Keep your application at those places fresh (less than 90 days old), and be sure to follow up by calling the terminal manager to see what is really happening at each place.
But at this point in the year, it is unlikely. However, OD is the fastest growing of all the LTLs. I'd say they are your best bet. Call the terminal manager.BIGreem1985 Thanks this. -
