Its trucking........nothing is perfect. I waited 27 hours for a backhaul out of Anheuser Busch in Jacksonville after a 330 mile deadhead from Pompano. I have not waited for a backhaul out of the northeast like that. Recently, I did wait overnight for a load, but I was nearing the end of my shift anyway so no biggie. Mattfield, patience is a neccesity in trucking. Without it, nobody lasts long in this industry. Take the bad with the good. For me, the plusses outweigh the minuses.

I agree patience is needed for trucking. But you are one who is alright with most anything and that's a nice trait to have. Unfortunately most drivers tend to become irritated when the wait is happening too often. Almost every week I lose at least a day's driving because of waiting. Staying out for 6 day's for 2000 miles gets old REALLY fast! It's true that most any company you work for you will have a wait time. But chalking everything up to "it's trucking" let's nothing but bad planning and management off the hook. There are many things on management's end that could be adjusted and fixed. Starting with some of these back hauls that hold Driver's up for half a day. and much better planning for these loads out of eastern North Carolina. How about LOAD confirmation? I am NOT the only one this is happening to I have talked to many cargo Driver who have the exact same experiences. I'm not letting them off the hook with "That's Trucking" I know better.

Do you get paid for all that detention time!?
-
oh i have patience, been driving since 05' i guess i got used to being with companies that have a preload avail....and the recruiter seemed to shy away from me saying i wont drive overnight....i wont do it. period.
-
Gotta love a solar powered driver. I wouldn't hire someone who said I only drive when the suns up, if you've been driving since '05 then you know sometimes you have to drive at night. Just saying.Mike1155, Pintlehook and gntorres61 Thank this.

not sure who youve run with, but in ten yrs ive never, ever driven overnight. just sayin

We do a lot of northeast when driving at night is advantageous to get around NYC, Philly, Balt/DC, NoVA. I will do it when necessary to get a load delivered on time or to get home, but I do prefer to drive days just like most of us out here. Still, traffic is lighter at night and finding parking during the day is a snap.

Yes I sure did! My great big $50 for sitting a day and a half.

you just got 50 for sitting a day and a half? that stinks. the company i ended up going with pays 16 per hour after one hour....home weekends, 75 percent drop and hook, 100 percent no touch and no forced nycsmurf-316 Thanks this.
