in the meantime as a company driver, run it like you are paying for the fuel. Use this time as your "school" in running your business. Get the mistakes out of the way as much as possible. Fuel and clock management are key.

also, if you live more than 75 miles from a facility or parking location, you should be allowed to park at home or near as I stated above.

That would be nice... so many different options as to the route to go.. also toying with the idea of just buying a used truck for around 25k and getting an authority and using 123loadboard and getloaded and TheTruckStop to get loads... wonder how many people I can get to tell me that ill crash and burn if I do that! hahaha

I would get some experience in this business before you did that just for the simple fact that you can learn this business before you jump into your own authority... Look at it this way go with Schneider as a company driver there you can learn the business essentially on their dime with their truck

Not a bad idea... run on schnieders dime and learn the lanes and learn how to maximize fuel mileage while minimizing fuel costs... good idea... everything is pointing to Schneider... I don't know how a ifeel about being stuck with a trainer for 6 weeks tho! I am a solo kinda guy

I just finished training with schneider in Dallas. I too came from the oilfield, but in West Texas. Anyway, the training is 1St week of orientation type training, where they teach you company policies and give you an initial road test.2 ND week, if you pass the 1St, you go out with a trainer. 3Rd week, back to the classroom where they teach you trip planning and qualcomm use. Take a few tests including a final road test. So its only a 3 week training program. 1 week, with a trainer in his/her truck

I will say with the way the load board is and where the rates are going you'd be crazy to come to choice.

People read on these forums and think it's all gravy.

Drivers now days don't care to actually get the experience needed to be successful.

Let me ask this. Could you go do the job you do now for 6 months and then start your very own oil company and be successful? My guess is no that's why you're becoming a truck driver.

Driving a truck is the easy part.

It's running the other 95% of the business that's hard.

6 month drivers Schneider loves because they have the mentality that you have to keep the wheels turning to earn. Hey you now have a truck payment EVERY week to make so gotta haul this cheap crap to make my payments.

There's a reason the rates have taken a dive. Schneider is putting most of the best freight on company trucks and forcing the IC to have to haul cheaper to make those payments.

Sure % sounds good but we do not work on percentage here.

Percentage based lease is a sales gimmick Schneider uses to sell drivers on what is truly a sliding mileage scale.

Everything on our load board is mileage based. Period end of discussion percentage isn't even shown or mentioned.

at 6 months a driver hasn't even driven thru all the seasons yet they think they're ready to run a business.

Are their people capable of making it work .... of course there are but I'd say less than 50% of the drivers who are new to this business are still driving at the 1 year mark. Out of those 50% less than 1 % are probably able to be a O/O.

It's not what the glassy eyed new boots drivers want to hear but it is the truth.

I've made good money I've not made any money. Matter if fact it's been 6 weeks since I've made steady good money.

I did not nor continue to do choice for the money. It's the hometime.

I've run across so many drivers that are fresh out of 6 month as a company driver who love the 1st month of choice then it's a cliff dive once the payments become weekly.

Why do you think there are so many shakers that are slightly used ready to be re leased.

Schneider pushes and encourages the choice program for 6 month drivers. THEY MAKE MORE PROFIT OFF A CHOICE DRIVER THAN A COMPANY DRIVER!! Or else they would never lower the standards to become a choice driver.

EVERYONE JUMP ON IN AND HAUL THE CHEAP FREIGHT.... THEY'LL KEEP LOADING THE BOARD WITH IT.
