Id go tmc as well and that is who im going with. They from what ive read and heard are the best in training for flatbed. It helps if your in there freight lanes though to go with them or you may have a bad experience. I also like them because they have a reputation for looking the best and being well represented and to me that matters. Im hoping all works well for me but I think with flatbed what a big factor is where you live for the lanes. Im in Illinois so I think TMC will be good with me.

Got a local offer for hourly 21.50 to start. 40-50 hours, home daily. Sudden change of direction.
-
800 a week. I guess a guy can live on that. Won't be easy, but possible if you watch the pennies.
MJ1657 Thanks this. -
860. Base pay, 50 hours is 1187.50 not sure where you got 800.00

Since you are in lllinois I would look into the companies that haul coils and still pipe in that area

If they told you 40 to 50 it's really going to be 35 to 45. Plus another 5 to 10 you won't be paid for. Unless it's a union job, then your buddies will clock you out for hours after you went home. If you get this job, be sure to check back in and let us know how it's going.Sneakerfix Thanks this.

I have a buddy who works there, hes making 24.75 now, he gets no less than 40 hours and gets all the overtime he ask's for. He said they have alot of guys who just want 40. Also the home time is great on the family! -
I work local and would probably never go OTR now that I've been spoiled. But I have lots of opportunity for growth where I live.
You need to ask yourself if this is something you want to be doing in 5 years. If not, what other opportunities are there once I have more experience.
Once your not trapped in a truck and use to going home everynight, it will be hard to go OTR if you get bored with that job.
Just something else to think about. Getting paid time and a half after 40 hours is nice. -
What is spoiled for one is misery for another. I'd rather eat a shot gun than get a local job. Having to go to the same place and drive the same roads day after day after day.
Not to mention that whole boss thing. I haven't had one of those since I was 19. No thank you.Orangees Thanks this. -
That's why I said he really needs to think about it. I think your pigeon holing yourself with a local gig. Being in Houston, I think I have more options than I would most other cities given the oil industry in Texas.
