Thanks for the input boxx how much different are the steering boxes on cabovers to those on lets say a w900 or t600? Steering pump new is bout $300 or so down here lines arent that expensive, pump goes mounted to accesory drive on ntc cummins below the air compressor. route new lines and resivoir, then mount box to chassis and link to pitman arm. Box might be my most expensive piece surely one off a newer k100 will work.

As for brakes all i would have to do is add brake spiders to the ftont so i can mount brake hardware tee off at foot valve and add front brake valve with hoses to each sides single 30 chamber, and brake parts dont evrn have to be cabover specific just specific to my front axle.

Whats the beef.... you guys are goin to keep hating huh..

I'm swapping the whole steer axle out on mine. Gotta get rid of those heavy and ugly old Daytons as well as add brakes so it'd be easier in my case.

Those type programs are often educational.
Some steering pumps have a third line. what is that for and does your box require one? Some steering boxes have adjustments to relieve pressure at a certain points in relation to the steering stops. Does the steering box need to be centered and if so how is that done.
When I went to put cam brakes in place of wedge brakes on the steer axle the hole in the center of the backing plate was a different size. Type 30 on the steer axle? How many different size chambers as well as different length slack adjusters are there and why? What is a steer axle porportioning valve?
The last company I worked with running manual steering ran the best bias tires, on the steer, they could buy ran at the highest psi rating. Radials on the drives. Just telling you their answer to drivers complaining about hard steering.
Sometimes everything falls in place and if its mine it goes to hell.
No Blue, don't listen to him, your Daytons are still sexy. What did you here? Heavy, ugly, old? Oh no baby!

    lots of character Thanks this.

Why a type 30 chamber on the steer instead of a 24? Hell, why steer brakes at all? I sure agree with Character on this, it'll be more work than priming a Detroit........but I do at least understand the want of power steering. Have a shop do it!

Lawyers will drool over modified steering and brakes if you're ever in an accident. This isn't something that most people should do themselves. Many people can do it, but there's a lot of liability if something goes wrong, so I say that you shouldn't. Whether you do it yourself or not, when it's done, find a different shop to do a complete steering and brake inspection and keep that receipt.

Run it Armstrong till you find all the parts. The 78 Aerodyne I drove was Armstrong, just need to learn how to work it to make it easier on yourself. Find a donor truck and measure the distance between the mounting bolts on the box, make sure pitman arm travel is the same. Not that big of a deal unless you can't put a cob handle on a file ( figure of speech) then you need to just to someone else.
