579 baby Pete 2016

I'll be stepping into a new ,1,800 mi. 579 in a couple days. Well equipped with 3:08 gears 10spd and Paccar motor. My first experience with super single drive tires also. I'll try to post drive impressions and fuel economy here weekly. I have driven Volvo ,Casscadia, and Peterbuit 387.

 

Took another look today. Led lighting throughout interior , built in navigation. Garmin programing. CB antenna placed forward of doors on roof. CB BOX seems small, a bracket is in order for my galaxy 98. Pair of 100 gal tanks smaller than I am accustomed. Room for larger tanks is there. This is the seventy inch sleeper not the new 80inch. No mirrors on hood, I will see how that works for me. I am used to one on passenger side. Control placement seems logical, intuitive as some say. Feels like my feet rest farther forward than in the Cascadia. Will try to post drive impressions over the weekend.

 

I did write another report looks like it didn't load. It's a lease truck with purchase options. Engine didn't seem to pull as strong as some only 455hp setting but part of that evaluation is the quiet, just didn't sound like it's working hard. But maintains speed uphill about average. At 5500 miles it's getting better fuel economy up from 7.5 to 8.5 . One 812 miles stretch at 9.2 got me a little excited but have not been able to keep it. The 10 speed with 3.08 differential spread the shift points out farther than I am used to. So some of the feeling of less power is not haveing the short shift to keep you high in the power band. 3.23 to 3.36 with a thirteen would feel better to me but I'm adjusting. The quiet allows me to listen to the excellent stereo system it came with. My cb is not yet installed because the wires are plugged in to each other and until I get a tester in hand I can't tell what is what.

 

65mph puts me at about 1200rpm . 22.5 x 445 x -one Michelin drive tires.

 

I do have an enhanced warranty. It is a 2015 motor built later in the year. Fuel pumps was a problem mentioned to me. Earlier models also had emissions problem common for other makes 2012. I am praying bugs have been worked out. At least mechanics now have an idea what to expect if there's a problem.
