I found backing difficult cause my instructor just told us generally how to do stuff, it wasn't until I found youtube videos breaking them down into little steps that it made sense, try doing that, what are all the backs you need for your states DMV?

I recently graduated so it is still fresh in my mind. The learning curve is not gradual. Just wait till you think you feel comfortable with a particular part of driving, just to struggle with it the next day.

Again, the learning curve is NOT gradual. It might go badly one day, great the next and you might be struggling with something you never had a problem with your 3rd.

Whatever you do, don't take it to heart.

The oddest and best advice I will give you, that I was given, sing a song that gets you in a good mood.
I've seen it work for not just me but multiple other people. It will put you in a good mood and that's good for your brain.

Being all fearful and nervous--well that just puts you in a state of fight or flight and your brain is not working for you. Sing a song, get in a good mood.

    Thanks for the responses
I failed my road test. Pretrip inspection and airbrake test went good. Driving went good the first 15 minutes, then I started coasting corners out of gear and I stalled my vehicle.
I retest on sunday. Still don't feel prepared.

Don't you need to retest on the one part you failed? I don't know because it's been that long ago and I didn't have to deal with any state or CDL things.

I am not sure actually. I think in Alberta Canada you need to do the entire procedure again. Pretrip inspection and road test. I will ask tomorrow.

    Hey Gas Hauler
I believe I have to do everything again. In alberta canada you have to do the pretrip, airbrake test, backing up, parking and driving in an hour.
You only get tested on a half hour of your driving.

It almost sounds like you are doing a test in canada the same week you started??

    Schooling here was,
    1st week-in class
2nd week-backing maneuvers, driving and pretrip
    3rd week-Backing and driving

It was close to 3 weeks before we did an actual road test with an examiner
    .
Before I could do my road test I had to do pretrip which includes in cab and brake check.
Then backing maneuvers, straight, offset and alley dock.
After all that, then you get to do an actual road test.

Coasting around corners, go extra slow to give yourself time to downshift, be in the right gear 100-150 feet before the turn. You won't fail for going slowly only lose points, yet you will fail for coasting from not allowing enough time to get into gear.

And if you feel the truck is about to stall, that shake start to happen, work on recognizing it im immediately and press the cluth as soon as you feel it starting to stall, then go directly into the right gear.

Don't worry too much about the stuff that loses points just focus on the automatic fails, your instructors should be able to tell you what all them are.

Coasting around corners... that's another thing, we weren't allowed to shift while turning, we got our gears before the turn
