I am not sure if we had less in terms of driving time. It was 20 hours in the truck in less than 2 weeks. We got our air brake certification and defensive driving in that time as well. My mom went to the hospital during this time as well, so I was pretty distracted on atleast a few of those days. I didn't feel ready after 20 hours and told the school but they insisted I was doing good enough. I am retesting on sunday so I hope it works out. Im going to have a couple days off driving so dont know how that's going to pan out.

Yeah. The examiner said I should have stayed in 5th and went around instead of struggling to get into fourth with little time. But it's tough because on the marking sheet its 10 points lost for improper use of clutch/gears but it's also 10 points lost for going too slow.
I hope I do better on sunday, today was really hard to swallow.

Thanks. Yeah on the days where I was in a good mood I did much better than when I was distracted with family stuff.

I am starting to hear my gears more, so that I feel will come along. I will keep that especially in my mind next time I drive and see if I can make a difference. My main problem though is I can't downshift fast enough when approaching intersections if I am not given a lot of time.

Are you required to take the turns in 4th? I use 5th for almost all my turns the truck has the power for it

In Nova Scotia, Canada it was an automatic fail if we took any turns (in intersections) in high range. Same if we stalled at any point, although we did the test with an empty dry van, so stalling was essentially impossible. We had to be in low range when stopping anywhere, although my instructor insisted we shift right down to 1st or 2nd, which I still do 7 years later.

Looks like things are different in Canada when I did my school we use 10 speeds the first high range gear is 6th and I don't think I have ever used 1th

Canadian provinces, like US states are all responsible for their own Motor Vehicle Acts and licensing drivers. OP is in Alberta, and they have different standards of licensing than Nova Scotia, where I did my road test.

We were taught to use every gear, up and down, every time in training. In retrospect, I am grateful for having been taught how to shift since the weight restrictions are different in Canada and at my first job I was hauling 65,000 lb payloads in a van. We used the low range of the gear box more than the high range moving those loads around the city.

You can never say that 4th gear is the gear for turns. It's up to the road conditions and the truck. Plus a few other factors.

Relax take the test after fixing you problems in your mind. You can be relaxed because you've already passed most of the hard stuff. But do not cut it out when studying for the test. You'll get it.

10 points lost for going to slow will apply when you are actually driving, a straight road and youre going 25 in a 40, theyre not going to apply that to slowing down for turns.

and just go down to 5th, don't do any more than is required to get the point, when I took my test I took rights in 6th and lefts in 7th. that's not a good habit I know but it was easier to pass the test that way.
