Hey Chrome...do you ever get out to the Pac Northwest?

 

I brought it up, because to the best of my knowledge, it's the only yard you can bobtail out of as a company driver. I'm sure they don't want us to, but since it lacks shuttle service and is in the middle of nowhere, it's nice to let people know Henderson has it's perks, if you're willing to take your truck. And if you ever run the beer dedicated, you'll spend a lot of time there.

I may go back on full OTR eventually. I have to watch my miles the next 2 months, see if it will be worth it. Probibly not though. I make the same money pretty easy running regional.

There seems to be such a spirit of cooperation and comradarie on this thread that I thought I would post a list of little things we can do to help each other out while on the road:

1. When dropping a trailer, always make sure the tank is over half full. I've never understood why a person would fuel the truck and not top off the reefer.

2. Never, Never, Never drop a trailer that needs lights repaired, landing gear repaired, or doors repaired. What could be a MINOR inconvenience to you could be a MAJOR problem for the next driver. Chromedome has posted about this one before. At the very least, let OTRM know the problem so they won't assign the trailer to somebody else.

3. Keep a good flashlight within reach and be willing to use it to help a fellow driver.

4. CR England Drivers are our friends, and we can help each other out for two reasons: We run much of the same equipment, and we go to the same shippers and recievers. It is only natural to help each other out with directions.

5. Our CB Company Channel is Channel 5, use it if you want to offer guidance but don't want to embarrass a driver by broadcasting it on channel 19.

 

Anybody out there have a recommeded packing list for training?

B & J, here is a good rule of thumb: Pack what you would need for two weeks away from home. You may be gone longer than that, but usually you have an opportunity to restock and do laundry and such midway through.

If you forget something, most truckstops have what you need, including things like shampoo, razor blades, and stuff like that.

Take the time and spend some money NOW for a really good pair of sunglasses. Also, if you wear contacts make sure you have an extra pair or else backup glasses.

One thing I noticed is that people will bring a bag for their personal stuff and a seperate briefcase for all their paperwork and business related items. THat way you are not digging through socks and underwear looking for your comcheck envelope.
