I haven't gone job shopping in over 10 years and was told after my driving test at my possible future employer I'd be sent out for a physical. Does this mean I'd receive a new med cert? If for some reason I decide not to take the job or wasn't offered a position, do I still need to notify my current carrier that I received a new med card?
My current carrier management gets a little sore when they find out a driver has been looking for a way out and they also have their own office they only accept medical certs from. Still on the fence about leaving and would hate to ruin my work relationship if I stayed, so any info is appreciated.
Having a new physical for pre-employment question?

Hi BackisSore, (mine too), that's the problem nowadays with all this electronic stuff, you can't fluffer without everybody knowing about it. I think it's silly, a new employer doesn't recognize an older (yet valid) health card. I always figured these companies get some kind of "kick back" from these "occupational clinic quacks" for every new med card that get's issued. Be that as it may be, I wouldn't say a thing to anybody. If you don't take the new job, the prospective new employer may make you pay for the physical, and I'm sure your present employer will find out, but probably not if you don't say anything. I feel for you, as I've had jobs, that I hated the work, but the bosses were cool people, and I was afraid to tell them I was looking for other work. Welcome to trucking in the teens. Good luck.

I did the same thing not long ago. I had just gotten a new cert through current employer, then got a new one after interviewing with a prospective employer. I re-certified the new one with my state while still working for current employer.
I ended up moving on to the new employer, but the process took well over a month,, and during that time I never heard a word about it.
Maybe they can find out, but I'm not sure how. I guess they would if your employer lost their copy of your last medical card and needed to make a new copy.BackIsSore Thanks this. -
I wouldn't say a word to your current company, but to save yourself some future headaches, I would still take it to the DMV to register it. Your company won't know anything. Keep the new long form with you, and as far as your company knows, you're still compliant with the old one.
It's your body. You can get a physical any time you darn well please.BackIsSore Thanks this. -
Thanks for the advice folks.

Mine is a little different I had a good card, 4 months old, but state pulled my CDL till I got a medical waiver so job put me on hold till I got it.
After a month I did get a waiver and before I could go back to work job sent me for another physical to their place on their dime. All this did was renew my card for a year from that date. I did not give job a copy of new card so I am thinking they will tell me when the older card needs to be renewed not the new one.
I would not tell job of the new job search

Company #2 has to verify your work history with company #1 before they can hire you, so your present employer will know anyhow.

In this day and age, nothing is private anymore. Everyone shares everything.

True, although company #2 might save that verification for last. That way, they won't be screwing you over if you or company #2 decides to back out.
At least that's what my current employer did when I was going thru the application process. I thought that was kinda cool of them.
