My mother was paralyzed from a stroke. For the past four years I have cared for her full time until sadly she passed away in August. So basically I have been unemployed for a little over four years. I didn't collect any benefits during this time. The recruiter at Swift has told me that two notarized letters saying I was a caregiver during this time will suffice as proof of what I've been doing these years. I've dealt with commissioned recruiters before and to say I'm wary is an understatement. So I've gotten my DOT physical and permit. But I'm terrified I'm going to be disqualified and kicked out of school 1100 miles from my home. Are my fears unfounded? Thanks in advance for any help.

2 notorized letters is the norm for most trucking companies, in your situation. Common occurance.

Thanks Chinatown that's reassuring.

Notarized letters from whom?
-
The recruiter hasn't specified. I assumed two people who were aware of my situation?xlsdraw Thanks this.

I went through this. I got a letter from my mothers doctor giving a brief synopsis of her illness. I then got a letter from our pastor outlining my time as her primary caregiver.
xlsdraw Thanks this. -
You need 10 year employment history for any truck job. I really dont know how you prove you were unemployed.
Social security office will give you a printout of employment history. Then you can order criminal history printout online for fee.
Its good idea to find out what truck job or school needs you to bring or you will be sent home. -
Many women entering trucking get these letters because they were homemakers for years.

This is my situation and it has me worried a bit. I haven't worked in over 15 years. I have been a stay at home dad the whole time. My 10 year employment history is easy, zilch. I really hope this doesn't prevent me from getting hired on.

There's been several stay at home dads posting in the past and they all found trucking jobs. Some inherited money and didn't work for a few years; now since they blew through the money, time to work again and they had no problem finding trucking jobs. Same with people that were in prison for many years.
