I know this is a very popular subject and I would like to put my 1 cent in, (IRS got my other cent). Just so you know where I stand on this subject, I'm a Marine Corps veteran, CCW holder, NRA member and freedom lover, and I carry everywhere. However, I have a few points a driver needs to know regarding legal firearm possession in a CMV followed by a couple stories of the dark side of the freedom.

    1. Firearms are legal. As of today, Nov. 2, 2015, there is no federal law prohibiting a driver from legally carrying a firearm in a CMV. (States regulate this).
    2. Don't Lie. If a LEO, (Law enforcement officer) asks you about a gun, don't lie.
    3. Find the right company. I started at Swift and was told that firearms were illegal, which is BS. Find a company that you can communicate with freely. Tell them you carry a gun and don't want to run through Communist states that hate our constitution. If they tell you to take a hike, then do just that. Your constitutional and natural right to defend yourself supersedes some joker's BS company policy or personal opinion on guns. Plus, if we drivers start actually doing something with our feet and not just our mouths, these states will see more difficulty finding available drivers/trucks to service their business needs. (This is already apparent to some extent).

    Story time,

Last year, I was taking a load down to the state docks in Mobile, AL. I went to the front office, filled out the paper work, acquired an escort for $50 and proceeded to the front gate. As I approached the front gate, I noticed an extremely high volume of law enforcement, with cars and trucks strewn on either side of the road being searched. Since this was my first time at any dock, I thought it was normal, maybe a drug bust or something. I was next to pass through the gate, and a LEO approached me and asked me if I had any weapons, so I told him that I did. He asked me to shut off the vehicle and exit. That's when all the fun began. I told him where all my weapons were, under the impression that I was ok. I was in Alabama, a state that recognizes my carry permit, I was up front with the LEO, and I didn't notice any "no gun" signs. Well, I was far from good.
Very long story short, My truck was impounded, My dog was taken to the dog slammer, my 3 guns were seized and I was hauled off to the big house. My fiance came 500 miles to bail me out and after $1200 getting my dog out of the slammer and my truck back, I was very upset about losing my guns. It turns out, 1-2 times a year, they do a joint operation at these docks as a training exercise/security blitz with over 6 agencies. There were Feds, military, state, local, etc. It was a flippin nightmare. This story has a point:
    4. Don't go on Government property. EVER! The government sucks, they don't hire cool, normal people, they hire whacked out kids who got picked on as kids who take it out on normal people. DO NOT go near govt. property, ever, ever.

I was sent a few weeks ago on a load that just said: somethin, somethin warehouse. As I approached the location, I saw the sign out front read, "Federal Prison". I drove right on by. Since I knew the guys at a shop in Georgetown, KY, I called em up and they held my guns while I did the load the next morning. They are the sh **. It cost me an extra 100 miles round trip(s), a hell of a pain in the rear, but I didn't get into any trouble. I tore my broker a new one for sending me there, but in his defense, the rate confirm looked just like a normal warehouse.

I could go on and on and on about the BS laws, crooked LEO, and craziness we have to deal with on a regular basis regarding self defense. However, it's simple: Carry if you wish, (quietly), Don't drive to/through states with anti-constitutional stands on the 2nd amendment and DO NOT go on any govt. property.
