Hello All,
I've been lurking around here for awhile now. The time has come to ask you for assistance in getting that new driver, 1st job. I have 5wks w/ Sage out of San Antonio + 1wk refresher w/ SW TX Jr College out of Del Rio, TX. I've acquired my TWIC, Hazmat and Tanker.
I am in Tacoma WA. I will be here at my son's helping out around here for an unknown amount of time and taking on my 1st driver job here in WA. My License is TX. My home is in TX.
Sage training was all geared up for OTR. SWTX was all about diversity. I experienced more & learned more in 1wk at my refresher course at SWTX than I did in 5wks at Sage. At Sage it was clutch & van only. At SWTX it was floating, flatbed, tanker, van, a easier way to parallel & jack knife back in. Floating was easier, clutch was tiresome, learning the two was recall confusing at times. I expect being behind the wheel will iron all that out for me. I'm good at backing. I'm as pretty a shade of green as any new driver.
I'm a reliable hard worker, no slacker. I do try and I do give it my best. Back in the day I was nicknamed Mighty Mouse, now I discribe myself as Mini Mouse...work smarter not harder. I eventually hope to make out to the oil patch someday. When it fires back up, I'll be ready to jump in if the moneys there.
Anyhoo, I'm in need of potential employer contacts here in WA. Any and all information and direction is much appreciated in my job search. I'm looking forward to that 1st driver job.
Thx so much, R.
New Driver, Tacoma WA/ Ready for 1st job

You do know about residency requirements for a CDL, right ? If you hire on in Wa. you'll likely need a Wa. CDL. Or try to explain why you're in Wa. with a Tx. Cdl job hunting. Anyway, there are plenty of trucking co's operating out of Wa. assuming you want OTR. I would talk with TWX out of Spokane or Central Oregon Truck or Market Transport out of Portland, I believe. Even consider May out of Eugene. Welcome aboard. One more thing, somewhere, way in the back of your mind, keep this thought......trucking may not be your "cup of tea" so to speak. If that turns out to be the case, have a "plan B", right ?
riseandshine Thanks this. -
Thx for your input AM. I'll check those co.'s out.

Yes, "Allow Me" is right, if you're going to live in WA you'll have to switch your CDL to WA.
You could also use your TX CDL and Texas address, then ask the company if you can take time off in WA to visit your son. Make sure the company has freight lanes through WA though.
Here's some companies that would work for you in WA.
Lynden
James J. Williams
TWT Refrigerated Services
System Transport
Decker Truck Line
Leavitt's Freight Service
Waggoners Trucking Co.
Jones Bros. Trucking - Missoula,MT
Watkins-Shepard - 3 terminals in WA
Red Leaf Corp. - based in Ft.Scott,KS and hires in WA(dry van)Last edited: Nov 4, 2015

Thank you CT. Allow Me is also right about plan B.
I'm hoping to be here only a couple of months to help out, for certain no later than Feb. I have my own flood damage back in TX, gotta get there to clean it up b4 spring. I can't see any practicality to move my hard earned CDL for such short time. My warrior son had surgery. Things need fixing around his homestead here.
I've been thinking about that plan b....my background is construction. Prolly ought to just get a construction related temp job for this moment in time. April a year ago I was on a commercial roof in the cold ... rain and said to myself "you can truck drive at 60 instead of this ....".
On the fun side of things...dang they have a lot of axles up here! -
Thank you AXE. I'll add it to my list.
AXE Thanks this.
