Can anyone tell me which state it is that fines truckers for not having the mudflaps at the very rear of the trailer (at the ICC bumper)? Someone told me about it a few years back and though I haven't run across that state line (otherwise, I'd have been fined), I'd like to make sure I don't cross into that state without being prepared. I mostly pull a stepdeck, but occasionally pull a rented van.
Mud flaps must be at the rear of the trailer

Chinatown, I have contacted OOIDA and NASTC. Both weren't aware of which state.

I tbink its a fed regulation to have em behind the tires. Covering half the height if tire. At least.
I was told that by a previous employer. A few years back so laws may have changed since.
48 foot spreads will have em mounted to bumber in most cases. As the rear tire sits by the bumper. As well as some other specialized trailers. If you look at standard trailers with sliding axles. They'll all be mounted behind the tire.
BUT. I just saw a 53 van with em mounted to the bumper. And the axles were all the forward.
States seem to have their own interpretation of the fed rule. Like texas will write you up if they're flapping in the wind. Even though their own locals will have flaps flying around. -
The regs haven't changed, it is the same as it has been, the fmcsa little book has the reg, the states all have fines,

I met a trucker parked next to me in AZ. I'm looking at the side of his truck trying to figure out where he was based and was confused. He came out and I asked him. He said Hawaii. I was like WTF???? He comes over every year and does the art show. His trailer is very special with all sorts of stuff like AC, heat, dehumidifier, humidifier and tons of other stuff.
true blue Thanks this.
