Is there too much snow on I-70? What road is better for this trip? I-15 then I-70 vs I-40 then I-25. The second one is longer but if there is no snow - I will take it.

It would be totally insane to go that far out of your way. Only reasonable route is 15 to 70

If you want to avoid i-70, the next shortest route is I-15 north the salt lake, then I-80 to cheyenne Wy, then south on I-25 to Aurora Co. 939 miles compared to 1,015 using I-40 to 1-25.

Chains are currently required over Vail pass, mm 189 to 196 as of 11am MST. Th tunnel is snow packed at present time.

If you want to go on 80 take 189 from Provo to 80, saves miles and mountains.

All I used to make my decisions to go or not. But I almost always go unless it's closed for an accident which takes hours to clear out.

Four chains for Colorado, right? I just put new drive axle tires and don't want to abuse them with chains. The best road for me is the one without chaining up.

6 chains your required to be packing. And will usually need all 6 chains when the dress code is up.

I think is also the law of some sort. But some have mentioned 8 chains for states that require spares.
