Last I heard about this guy was he had killed himself, shows you how truckers like to tell stories.. Anyways I think they are looking at it all wrong... Sure the guy is guilty and should pay for knowingly running over hours, he should of known his limits and I think he probably did but decided to push past it.. Now the company has fault as well because they was pushing drivers in order to keep the contract... Now the answer is in the last sentence I just typed, """""in order to keep the contract"""".... The real criminal here is the shipper and receivers period... Go after them and most of this would stop..... They are the ones who really push the drivers, they set appointments for you that you can't enter 15 minutes till but then may make you wait several hours to get loaded, do they care about the delivery time after that? heck no...
Anyways that's who I think they need to go after because they are the real criminals..... -
This will continue to happen everyday. Truckers lack courage, if this man was a man he could have stood up for himself. Go after shippers and receivers, what a joke. For those of you dont know, it is the person behind the wheel who is responsible for the truck. He ran so hard cause others in the industry would have done it just to stick it to his or her fellow trucker.
old-six-pack Thanks this. -
I doubt that entirely. I have refused to run illegal. The reward was the miles were cut to 1500 a week and I sat alot waiting for loads. When I was willing to start running the way they wanted again, the miles picked up as well as the reduced sitting time. -
Exactly, they have ways in getting back at you persay.. I think perhaps with that comment the poster really doesn't understand trucking industry... (lol or a shipper)

Hi Guy's,
I'm real new at this, but I am not new at chronology. I think there may be some that are afraid of pointing out to the company that in the event you refuse to run illegal, and you are punished as Roadmedic was, reduced hours, all of this is harrassment.
Take your service chronology prior to the incident, and approach HR with a harrassment complaint. Bring Safety into the picture. Then File the complaint. Do not back down. The chronology will aide in proving your case. The company will review thier actions, and get back on track.
Just a thought,

It does no good. HR has no authority over the dispatch. Dispatch is sending you loads. Bring safety into the picture, and they tell dispatch the rules. Then you get little or no freight. Call safety again, there is no problem, you are violating the rules. It is a catch 22.

Not to mention, you will be fired, for some bogus reason and something will be put on your DAC to make you an undesirable hire. Its the game that all companies play. Do it our way, or you won't drive for anyone again.
I really hate the DAC thing, its not right and HR laws should supersede this report.Last edited: Jul 4, 2008

Hi Guy's,
Well it looks like you are truly Catch-22. The only way to correct this, and without the fear of a record damaging entry is full blown prosecution.
Guy's, you have to protect yourself. I know that no one here wants to violate the HOS rules or, God Forbid, hurt someone. Please use best judgment. If it were me, and I was informed by dispatch to violate HOS, and I was informed that failure to do so would result in black-ball or load reductions, they would think God himself had rained on thier parade.
Maybe it is just the Marine in me, but jepordizing the life of another for a load of whatever is "Criminal", not Civil. But I am a Laymen in this industry. Just not a Laymen in safety and common sense.
Be Safe guys,
Semper-Fi

I am sure glad that I am an O/O. That ^*%$ doesn't stop from the shippers but then again, I don't have take the load or haul for them again.
