Ok, I'll just lay it out

I did not pass my initial drug screen for my trucking school. I was told if I completed a SAP (substance abuse program) and took another drug screen thereafter, I would be allowed back and that test result would be removed from my record. All of that has now happened and I am back in school. I am scoring really well on my backing and road driving compared to the other students - trainers say I am a natural.

Here's the rub. I asked the school director the other day about the positive result being removed from my record and when I could start applying to schools. He said that I shouldn't do that, because if I mention I'm a student, the companies will contact the school for verification and he will have to report the positive test.

I understand that and I know it is my fault - that is not the issue. He did say that I can apply to companies once I pass and get my CDL and say that I got it on my own without school training, but I am not seeing a lot of companies that will hire you unless you have experience or are a recent school graduate.

I'm not sure what to do. Are there any companies that would hire me even after knowing I tested positive (even though it isn't on my record) since I completed the SAP and am back in school? Or are there companies that will hire me without verifiable road hours (as if I obtained my CDL on my own)? Are there companies that provide refreshers that are reasonable companies? I'm willing to put in the time and get my experience so I can get to a better company, I'd just rather not do the W.E. route or something similar. I made one mistake, and I am a pretty good driver, imo, and I want to do this for a while.

fyi - MVR is clean, no felonies or DUI's - everything else is spotless besides that one test that only the school has record of and they would obligated to provide that info if requested.

I live in the SE - I will not say where because I do not want to give away info that may infringe on my driving school. Everyone there has been great and my mistake shouldn't count against them.

Thank you all for taking the time to read and any advice is appreciated

thank you for your reply. I don't think it matters, but it was my fault and I accept that.

If you were in this position, would you let companies know about it beforehand or just apply like you obtained a CDL on your own? Like I said, this result is not on my record.

Yes, you're right. This wouldn't be on my dac. The school director, however, said that if a company contacted him (after me telling the company I was a graduate of said school) that he would be obligated to tell the company about my initial positive result, even though I completed the SAP and subsequent drug screen - otherwise I wouldn't be back in school
