hi guys I'm new to trucking( for my Cdl about two months ago) but I'm having trouble in one area and that's coming to complete stops . When I'm stopping I get kinda nervous and I end up stalling. Which is a huge problem when I get into traffic areas . I had a job lined up and I kinda blew it because of this. The guy said all my other aspects of driving where find except for that so he thinks I should do otr for a bit to fix it. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

I just downshift a couple of times, from 10th to 8th, then coast in neutral, that downshifting all gears is not required. While coasting, I can get my RPMs up and grab a gear if need be. I usually start out in 2nd or 3rd gearLast edited: Nov 6, 2015

When you come to a stop do doing that do you clutch all the way in still? That's what's getting me I get down and then when I try to stop completely I feel like I'm gonna roll back

At complete stop you put tranny in neutral, when you take off you put it in gear and get going. Am I missing anything here?

When I was in school they told me never come to a stop out of gear that's why I'm asking I've been told different things12 ga Thanks this.

Yes, while at a complete stop and in gear you have to push the clutch all the way in, with other foot on the brake.Calical1888 Thanks this.

If you are heavy, than yes, but if you are light, then its not a problem. Once you are at a stop, put it in neutral, give your leg some rest. Light turns green, get goingCalical1888 Thanks this.

I passed the road test because I was less nervous I guess? I think I got a little rattled because hat was the job I had been shooting for. So I kinda fell apart on it you know? And after being told there's different ways to do it I was trying to find out

Coming up to lights I always stop accelerating kinda...especially stale lights. Remember your the biggest slowest death missle ever take your time. Down shift 10-8-6 then ride her on in. Clutch in, never go to stop in neutral in case someone behind you plows you. Stop it and neutral for leg rest, 2 for loaded or 3 for unloaded and take off you'll be fine buddy!
