I've been driving straight trucks (26ft) otr for a year and a half now. I'm ready to finally get my class As and get in a big rig. I'm tired of last minute loads and the hotels. I have a question, I have a misdemeanor that disqualifies me from going to the schools I've called for free. So I have to pay out of pocket or I could just go to the DMV and get my license. What are the pros and cons of going to school and do you guys know if I'll be able to land a job with the misdemeanor? Thanks

We are neither lawyers nor mind-readers. Any more details about the misdemeanor, the five w's, ya know?
Straight Stacks Thanks this. -
The 5 w's? And its a possession of stolen goods charge 2 years ago I got caught with a firearm that was allegedly stolen. Also, I was asking from experience have any one landed jobs with a conviction in this economy. I'm 24 here in North Carolina. As I've been driving for a while now though I've got that diesel fuel in my blood and I love it just tired of waking up at 5am in a hotel and dispatch not calling until 3pm saying I have a 620mile trip. Getting there getting loaded and may have to wait a day or two on another load sometimes

@BigKountry I have a couple of misdemeanors on my record,, i won't go into detail on what exactly they are. I had quite a bit of trouble getting into the industry. I called numerous mega carriers and was turned down by almost all of them. I called Celadon and they took me in, and alot of other people here at the school have records as well. I've actually made a couple of posts about my progress with getting into the company and you could check those out if your interested. My advice tho, call Celadon or Earl Henderson trucking maybe, the pay may not be that great but you'll get your foot in the door. Good luck man

Thanks driver! I will give it all a peep.

First thing. There is no such thing as a free school. You will pay dearly for company financed training. If your being turned down by the so called free schools its because the carriers they associate with won't hire you. There is a lot more to this then you are saying. If these carriers are not hiring you especially since they are searching for warm bodies I imagine your going to have a lot of trouble. Best advice is to stay on your present job.

Well of course I meant by free school, I meant was up front cost as opposed to tuition reimbursement. Yes when I call to ask they say the companies that they recruit with is not a guarantee they will hire me so I can't go the tuition reimbursement route.
