No, its not that simple. These schools do the pre hire. They have resource databases like DAC and criminal background checks. If they turned you down it was not because they could not guarantee a job. It was because the school did the background contacted the carriers and they said NO! These schools and the carrier human resources departments are very close. Not trying to be cynical, but you ain't telling the whole story.
To go to school or not?

I've been calling around the last month. They usually don't run a background they ask about my background when getting my information and I keep it honest before they even get a social security they turn me down because my conviction is theft related so, I've told everything why would I come ask for help then lie? Like you guys know me personally makes no sense driver

I disagree, There are people in my school that have multiple D.u.i.'s and felonies. Students with quite the extensive criminal background, there will be someone out there who will hire you. And even more schools willing to help you get your C.D.L. bc they really only care about the money. Once you actually have the Cdl youll have even better luck getting on with companies. Even then you could try to have your record expunged, or maybe even pardoned. And most places wont even care about your misdemeanor after 3 years and definitely not after 5. Don't let your criminal history hold you back, there is a place for you.

I can buy that. The schools know what will fly and what won't. Still supports my original point. If the schools stop the pre hire process because of your background it don't bode well for you. Like I said stay on your present job. A lot of carriers want five or more years to go by.

The problem you will encounter if you just go to the DMV and get your class A. Is that most companies are requiring you graduate from an accredited school with 160 hours of training. Those are the companies that hire without experience. So if you go to DMV then you will need to search smaller or what some call second chance companies. If they are not hiring new grads then they are going to want probably 3 months 6 months or 1 to 2 years of experience.

Thanks I am actually waiting on having my record expunged but it will take a year. Honestly I know the road will be hard as everything in my life has been harder because of past mistakes but I am asking if it's possible because I know it has to be people out there driving trucks with a record. Even one as ####ty as my misdemeanor. I will call the ones mentioned in the morning $7,200 is a lottt. The schools here is 3k and 5k but I have to pay up front. Which is no problem. I just want to know if it's necessary, because to be honest I pretty much know how to drive a tractor trailer. Is going to school going to improve my chances of landing a job?

This is what I was wondering, thanks!!

Most CDL school will let felons attend if the get a couple of pre-hire letters from trucking companies. Pre-hire letters are easy to get. At least a dozen companies will hire you.
