I agree. Something does need to be done, very soon. The Med generation will be in our workforce in the next few years, and in increasing number there after. Coupled with a Federal regulating body that seems to think it needs to justify its pay at every turn.
There will be a need to make changes. I only hope that those changes take place in slow small increments.
Sadly I made an assumtion when I said that the driver needs to take responsibility. I assumed that they were seeing a qualified doctor. Your right that does need to play a (large) part.
Its part of being a professional driver. Knowing when to consult your doctor, and when to say enough.

Thank you brother. It might have came out the wrong way, but I was just looking for someone like me. I'm 29yrs old and I have had my class d license since I was 18yrs old with no accidents. It was six years ago when I had my first panic attack and I never had anymore since I started on avian six years ago. I don't even want to drive trucks for a long time, just for a couple years until I finish college. The same people that bash me on here are probably the same people who complain about people being on welfare, food stamps, government assistance, etc........ But then turn around and say what they said in this forum about me when all I'm trying to do is feed my family and make a better life for myself and get off the streets. Anyway, I'm going to send you a private message and I hope you respond back.

I have been driving for three years otr, team operation. Everything was fine until two weeks ago. I am an otherwise healthy, happy 40 y/o female. I started having panic attacks right after my walks on my 30 min breaks. It started out to be very short term where it took no time for me to calm myself. Then they began getting to the point where I would be in a panic state upon waking up. Went to the ER two nights in a row, seriously thinking I was dying. I had to be brought home in order to get this worked out. I am on medication that helps for the moment. I have an appt in the morning and I hope to get answers and maybe some miracle treatment that will get me on track again. The thought of my career ending is not helping either. I didn't really know there were others (truckers) experiencing the same and I just wanted to offer prayers for others like me. This is scary stuff and if you have never experienced it, you have no idea. Thanks for listening (reading).

Truck driving is not the job for you. People don' t realize the stress level on the road. I have taken meds for anxiety before but made me drowsy. Now im out here pissed off and stressed all day dealing with all of the road bullies out here. Most of them are truck drivers!!! Cars dont really bully but drive like a holes. Too many self centered people out here.

    Don't listen to these pricks.

    Yes you absolutely can.

But first you are going to have to ween off those drugs and get a note from doc you are no longer taking them.

Look into more natural ways to deal with these issues you don't need drugs, you might even find getting out on the open road every day to be soothing, some do some like to ##### about it.

I was on Xanax before I started this whole thing it's not the end of the world to stop them

I read that you can have your doctor write you a medical note stating the medication does not had an effect on your ability to operate a vehicle. I know when I was taking Ativan I had zero issues after getting used to it.

Yeah but most companies still won't take you with certian medicines I would call around to companies ask to speak to their safety dept and see if they would let you drive under that with a release
