Earl Henderson Trucking has a guaranteed minimum that works out to $798.00 per week. That's not slave wages. They also run teams or solo; drivers choice.
Celadon also runs teams or solo, drivers choice. Furnish hotel room and meals during CDL school.
I should state, teams or solo, once the training is over.

What I mean by slave is having to stay with a company for a period of time in order to pay back the cost of your training, and if you leave early you still have to pay them. You owe money and pay for it either way. I figure it is best to pay for it on your own if possible because I don't like owing anyone anything but if you don't have $4000 give or take to throw at a school you do what you have to.

You're right, a private or community college school is best in most cases. Trucking company school works fine for some in certain circumstances.

I'd recommend a community college for CDL training. The tuition is usually under $2K and often times you can go for free if you apply for financial aid grants. She should get the endorsements, then apply to a tanker company.

Unless she is desperate, I don't see the point in paying $4K or more for a 3 week CDL course and then owing a company. If she's unemployed and can't afford endorsement testing, then do the year with Swift and move on.

P.S. That's kind of scary that Swift is willing to let a Rookie train someone.

Thanks for all the advice, everyone. I agree with the community college course. Our local college even funds the school for low income. I only had to pay $200 and got reimbursed for $150 of it. I just can't make her see it, but I'm very thankful for the info on the company and how it works. My hubby tried working a "local dedicated" job for Swift when we first come home and that crap was a nightmare. She's also not thinking about the fact that if this Swift dude can't feed them both on .36/cpm, then he's not gonna be able to feed her for 3 weeks of her program. So maybe with all the advice and info I've gotten, I can make her see reason to rethink her actions and at least stay home and get her CDL at home. I just hate to see someone get stuck in a dead-end job.
Used to work at Melton Truck Lines with the hubby... Come back home to have babies so I'm just a road-sick housewife now.

    KKW Trucking
National Carriers - now hires new CDL grads
    Navajo Express
    Watkins-Shepard
    Northern Refrigerated Transportation
    Pride Transport
    TWT Refrigerated Services

All hire new CDL grads with no experience. Websites may show "experience required" but that's changed now.

Flip a coin between Navajo Express and National Carriers.

All those are OK, but my two favorites are Navajo and National. Both have really nice trucks and those new ones Navajo is receiving are really sharp looking with the big bumpers.
