Hey guys I'm starting school in SC next Monday. After that I'm thinking of leasing into a company. I'm curious though. Fuel is really cheap right now. What happens when prices go back up? Do fuel surcharges keep up with rising cost? Thanks for any insight.
What happens to leasers when fuel prices go back up?

Thanks tow614. I'm aware of the lease purchase nightmares just praying I can squeak by. Going to be living in my truck to cut down expenses so hopefully I won't starve. I'm lucky I don't have kids.

How about NOT leasing be a company driver save you're money then buy a truck the traditional way.

I'm looking at a walk away lease. They're telling me that as company I may clear $500 per week and as lease I'll clear $1100. Maybe I'm wrong but don't you have a truck payment no matter which way you go? Lease or outright purchase. If you purchase you start saving now. Well that's a payment. Once you purchase you still have to start saving for your next truck. That's a payment. The megas don't drive trucks with 800,000 miles for a reason. They're to costly to keep on the road. If I'm getting into a new truck with a warranty every five years anyway I'll always have a payment boosted.

How much will you make per mile before fsc with said lease? Is your company going to pay you the full fsc or a fraction of it? Are you paid the same for all loaded and empty miles?
How much is your payment, insurance, permits, etc per week? Does the company your leasing on with offer fuel discounts?
Will you have a maintenance account? How much per mile? Is there a performance bond?
Do you know how to eek out as much mpg as possible? Is the truck capable of reasonable mpg?
Do you plan on going home? No revenue, no paycheck.
What is your plan of action if your truck goes down for a week for repairs? That fancy truck may come with a warranty but how are you gonna pay yourself without a truck to work?
Do you get to pick your loads or will you be at the mercy of a planner? Do you think your planner will have the same financial goals as you?
There is a lot more to think about than how "much more" you'll make as a lease driver vs a company driver. A lot to think about, learn and understand.

Just a word of advice but you'd be wise to keep some place as a "home" or else you can't legally take the per diem tax write off.
mnmover Thanks this. -
bottomdumpin, Bob Dobalina and baha Thank this.
