Going Over the Road with Knight

I asked the shop manager at Gulfport if they plan to keep the Internationals with the Maxxforce engines and he said they are selling them off and plan to have the new Internationals with the Cummins engine by April ‘16.

 

We have been buying them with cummins on the refeer side sense 2014. At least out of our terminal. just wont be up for lease for a while.

 

The main reason Knight bought those long-nose Petes was for high resale! They're great for cruising the hwys, but for a dry van driver can be a b---- to get into some customers loading areas. Ergo, lots of front fender damages...

Also Knight usually kept them for 2 yrs max as the warranty (think full was only 1 yr?) was much shorter than Volvos' which they typically kept for 3-4 yrs.

EDIT: the ones you are seeing are older and most likely leased to/owned by the driver..

 

Yeah, I'll take a Volvo anyday!! More usable room inside too than a Pete flat-top cab and more ergonomic with wrap around curtains, etc. Also more light inside..altho Pete's are great w/black out curtains, etc. for drivers who cant stand any light when they sleep in the day time..

 

You ever get a chance to be in a Prostar ? Lots and lots of room and storage.

 

The only International (2002?) I ever drove was the "1-day" I worked for Swift at the Casa Grande, AZ Walmart Grocery DC (Swift had an on-site fleet of Internationals)..dont remember the model but liked the lighted instrument panel with all the chrome switches & knobs .....did some yard dogging there that's all.
