just bought a single axle dump/plow rig with 66,000 miles but 6500
Hours Did I make a big mistake with this because the hours, the trucks extremely clean and set up just the way I need it to be (central hydraulics,Alison auto, aluminum dump bed etc etc). I've read a lot of good and a lot of bad about these online. Truck was a highway dept truck so it had the service dates and miles written on the door so it was taken care of from what I can see
3126 Cat new to me

Trucks a 2002 L7500 sterling

I've had a couple FL70's with this engine, and have always been good-until a driver ran it low on coolant in the summer here in Phx.
Cracked the head and the truck had about 350k on it, it was pretty well worn out, so we just sold it for parts.BryRylanKW Thanks this. -
I don't plan on putting tons of long distance miles on it but it will need to run day and night during snow season so hopefully it's a good one.

What HP is it? -
250hp
-
Mine was a 250hp with an Allison 6 spd-had a 26' box on the back, was a good little intown delivery truck.

IIRC thats the best, dont add HP as those engines like to grenade. I ran one up to 500k, the current owner is still running it, no major problems.KB3MMX and BryRylanKW Thank this. -

Had a 330hp version and in 280k it grenaded twice...both times because of a dropped valve.
After the second time I decided to check the valve spring tension and found that CAT uses VERY weak springs...
If I owned one again it would be getting valve springs replaced or shimmed for higher seat pressure.
BTW, the bottom rotating assembly is built like a brick S- house , it's way better designed than the cyl head.BryRylanKW Thanks this.
