Pattyj, I have not pulled for a household mover, but I understand the "dispatchers dream" as not having to tell off work drivers "nope, nothing this week." I think?

I just applied for I go van lines this morning, they move house hold goods.drove there and applied.Talked to the boss awhile.I would say it doesn't matter what type of freight you haul no matter how slow it is,be ready at any given time to roll.

That's how I do it. If I want to work, I'm just ready for the call. If you don't mind my asking why, why? Light loads? Better people? Do movers make more dollars/trip? Thx. J

My truck is paid off next summer, or sooner if I get the hell on it and work more. I can't even tell how much time I'll take off after that, but there's good fishing somewhere, and that's where I want to be. It won't be in Albuquerque, for xxxx sure.

I would drive within a 600 mile radius of Sioux city and when its slow I stay in town and pack goods and get paid hourly for that.I bet they do pay good. The boss I spoke with has been with this company 51 yrs,the receptionist 23 yrs and he said a man and wife team and they've been there 21 yrs.So that right there says a lot about the company.I was pleasantly surprised how nice these ppl are.

My last comment was from my smart phone. What I was laughing so hard about was something a guy told me. They had a guy that could not have been much older then 21 tell him he had two million safe miles. He told the guy he only employed outlaws and he was too safe a driver for him. The guy said thank you and left. Everybody in the office was laughing their butts off.

I saved up enough banked days off and took winter off. Company will come repo the truck. You just get a new one when u go back. Bad or good maybe...

Thing is I never went back.

Best life decision I ever made.
Miss it at times but not really.

Life's too short to waste it in a moving prison cell.

Got me a nice cushy union gig now. Thing is I don't pay union dues but get union pay. 30/hr
    X1.5 after 5 hours x2 after eight.
X2 on hollidays. + holiday pay.

Gawd I love right to work... And the teamsters I suppose.
Even got a helper to unload the truck for me. XD

They hired me and I hadn't drove a big truck in over 9 months.

Don't worry about gaps if you have enough experience.

I have a job opening that you can run till the end of Dec, then take off till March or April and I will hold the job for you. As long as you have a bit of common sense...
