Well to start off with they probaly fired him for taking his truck home.
It is against their policy to let drivers take their truck home.

May does allow a driver to park at a truckstop near their house unless you live close to a terminal or drop yard.

The way that I know this is I worked for May for a little time.

I left IDC because I couldnt make any money with them running solo... 3 months I left and went to CRETE, I bring home a thousand a week! Top pay .47 cpm vs. IDC .37 cpm! Anyway, if your solo driver, go elsewhere. Plus IDC does alot of retail stores (cheap freight) not enough drop and hooks. I live in Portland and my dispatcher said I needed to drop my truck at the Troutdale yard -NOT AT HOME- even though he had drivers to take there truck home because they didnt have a personal vehicle..?? Is that double standard? Anyway, go IDC if your TEAM driving, otherwise, I dont know how you can make any money with them as a solo driver at .36 cpm under 2500 miles with crappy customers. my own opinion.

IDC let me take my truck home as agreed prior to me attending orientation and I live exactly 5.1 from the terminal in Tacoma Wa.

May let me take my truck home because it was agreed to prior to me going to orientation.

Digital pictures of safe off street parking during the application process and both waived the policy.

i was a solo/team before my last 4 years as a tacoma local driver for interstate dist co . i was injured doing a hand stack(unloading freight) while at interstate that required surgery,i was off over a year on L&I .interstate has a company policy that if you are off due to work injury/illness/or for what ever reason for more than 90 day you will be terminated (if decide to apply please ask the recruiter about it ,it was made policy may 1st 2007).they will tell you that you are welcome to reapply but when you do thier might not be a job their for you,as what happened to me .i was never late for any load ,no wright ups,my idle time was always less than 1% ,no accidents, only 2 tickets the whole time i was their and none in the last 4 years i was a local, infact my fleet manager had said i was one of his top five locals(my fleet manager is no longer with interstate)while off i went bankrupt, lost my motorcycle, almost lost my house do to lack of income. after all of that i tried to get my job back and was told they would not rehire me.reason they gave is i havent driven a truck for over a year. to me that was a puch in the gut .to think that a company that you bleed for is now rejecting you when you most need then. take what you can from what happened to me because i hope it never happens to you. thanks for your time.

yeap I got that letter last month. So now I hav lost my medical well except I can do cobra program at $480.00 a month..........Then to top it off I paid $750.00 for a pet deposit and they're saying it cost them $350.00 to clean and detail truck I would only get $400.00 back. In the year I was there my dog never made a mess in the truck. I think he smelt better than I did:biggrin_25512:

It's sucks to get let go after a injury but I remember reading about that in my employee manual at IDC so it is the risk you take by hiring on. Is it right to let someone go because they got injured? No, but it is usually not the company wants to let you go. It is the insurance underwriters and the higher workers comp rates that are charged when you have injured workers that make the decision for them.

It takes lots of capital to run a trucking company and business decisions have to be made that are not always what you want to do, but what you have to do. Many times it is not personal, it is just business.

I understand what your sayin Big Blue but when your on work comp and only getting 2/3rds of your income (which from IDC income isn't much) then they want to terminate because a person gets hurt unloading their trailer. What happen to we take care of our drivers?

bigblue the problem i have is this policy wasnt in effect until after i was injuryed. it took effect 2 days after my injury date,so i didnt sign on for that. interstate left me/ others up the rageing river without a paddle.i now have very few choices because of the time i was down.i have to start over in that i have to go with a trainer now not because i cant drive but because ive been off the for over a year n thats not right ive had my cdl for over 10 years (accident free)an now have to be a rookie at rookie pay.so insurance or not they dont care about thier drivers.iam not the only one in this boat i know others also going through this crap.
