WalMart DC in Casa Grande, Arizona. My appointment isn't until 1930hrs, but they were cool enough to let me in about 4:15 early. Waited almost an hour just to get to the gate

I normally do not let it get below a quarter tank. I'll be late to a delivery before I get that low.

It's been several months since the last time, but I started today off with half a tank. Decided it was time to learn the actual reserve capacity versus speculating it.

I know letting it get down below 1/6 is a huge risk because of the placement of the intakes inside the tanks, the fuel could slosh out of reach and cause you to stall out on a big hill.

They are two 100gal tanks, with a potential for 95% capacity. So I already knew 10 gallons (of the total 200gal) wasn't usable. So that leaves, at least in this case, 30 gallons left in the tanks.

I did not however know that allowing it to get low heats the fuel up. From how you said it, I would guess it's a bad thing on a grander scale than just it heating the fuel? Now you have me curious...

Eh...company or not, I run this truck as if I owned it. Minus you know...paying for fuel and repairs... I'm still vastly inexperienced though...so I'll make some mistakes operating a truck and not realize it's a mistake.

Kind of like how SNI wants us to just pull off in the morning after doing a pretrip... No, on cold mornings I let the engine warm up. Sit in the driver's seat and keep my foot hovering over the pedal for when the idle alert comes on. Or how I used to gently give it a little throttle on takeoff, not realizing that's shocking the drive shaft.

So I'm learning as I go, but I do everything I can to know this truck inside and out. Only folks who know more about this truck than me at the end of the day should be the mechanic. ...that's what I strive for at least.

How did I know? I wonder how many people were "late" because of them

My guess is I'll be here until midnight, per usual WalMart unloading standards

Some will do that. The one in Dallas let me in about that early too. I guess it depends on how big a prick the boss in charge is.

Spoke to him earlier. They woke her up this morning. Things look good. Hopefully she'll be out of ICU tomorrow.
