I am not arguing with you, I think you are correct, but do you have a specific rule or reason why it is considered work if it is volunteering? It seems to be kind of a grey area to me.

Again: if it volunteer work it is a form of recreation.. its not work.. and no one can legally call it work. If there is a regulation that states this, someone needs to post it. You can build a church or run marathons all weekend.. its not work..

After reading all the replies I think it probably would be considered work, 2 main reasons, you are paid a stipend at the end of the year and that is based on how many calls you responded to. Also while at a call you are covered by the town's workman compensation insurance. So based on those two things and the fact there is a record of if you were there and what times then it would be prudent to log it. I don't think it would ever be noticed except the chance of being involved in an accident with lawyers involved. Thank you again to everyone for their input.

Even if it is strictly non-paid the Insurance Coverage would lead me to believe it is but seldomly done. Very interesting question though.
