We just use them as a slide so we don't have to throw or drop the hay so far.

Definitely not!! I started at the age of 48, and it's a great company!! As long as you are healthy, nothing will stand in your way! But those tarps will get on your last nerve at times! But luckily,I don't have to tarp SOOOO often!!

LOL,.. try 325lbs,.. thats what I was when I first started flat bed. Slowly losing it. I'm down to 275/280ish now. Went from size 50 waist, to 44/46 now.

So I know exactly how difficult it is for a fat guy up on the trailer. Many times crawling around, in and under loads, cursing myself for being such a fat guy. I'm honestly not fat from being lazy,.. I work hard. I just like to eat,.. especially right before bed.

I'm hoping I can lose another 50 lbs. That should be a good weight for me at my age. I'll never be as thin as I was in my 20's.

IMO % is better as long as the % # is respectable. If you're doing big deadheads a lot your dispatch needs work or better starting loads. For example. 1.5 year ago I dispatched our driver 1,000 mile run paid $4,000 (no tarp). Then I deadheaded 500 miles to reload (was northwest n Dakota where first delivered). That load paid $1,000 for 500 miles. Yes the last load was only $1/mile with deadhead. Driver elected mileage pay at $0.36 so grossed $720 on trip. If he'd taken % pay (25% of everything) he'd been paid $1,250 on that trip. Point is you should get a load that you have to deadhead a long ways on other end unless first load was very good. Most of time drivers were $0.10-$0.15 ahead on % with me at least.

I had driver summer 2013 doing 25% pay but had reload right back close for $1,800 (same $4k loading to start). So $5800 gross on think 2,100 miles. Since receiver here was 24/7 he unloaded Saturday here took 34 and did again Monday. He got 2 rounds a week. I told drivers you drive how you want but logs better be bulletproof lol. So yeah for 7 week period we grossed $11,600/week. Driver was loving it, $2,900 weeks. However after those 7 weeks both shippers started living off brokers and cut rates 50% on return 70% on going up. Driver then got accustomed to big money and thought we did that every week all the time so when he went back to $1,200-$1,500 a week said we were screwing him when we weren't, he quit. He tried to come crawling back but already made me mad and was replaced.

Sorry I rambled on there haha.

Good job on the weight loss. Takes courage to actually do something about it instead of just giving up. Good going man!

Great gigs rarely last. First, thing I was taught was to take the good with the bad.

Averages is what you gotta look at. Most likely if great rate going it's for a reason bc freights sucks where you're going.

None of us will be how we were in our 20s but flatbed is good for keeping us in much better shape. Keep crawling around under loads.
