i finally got the job I was trying to land and I was wondering if anybody had any tips for driving locally. I was driving through the Los Angeles yesterday and the streets where really really narrow. So I was kind of in high anxiety. It's weird I guess because the jobs so important I've been getting worked up to where it feels like I've never driven before ( this it the first time I've driven solo) so idk if you guys have any tips on how to mellow myself out or things you guys do please leave some suggestions
Started my local routes

It takes time.you'll probably be going to a lot of the same customers.in time it'll become routine.I would study your routes before heading out everyday until you can master local driving.if u can do otr you'll be able to handle this. Ask other drivers at your company for help.

there is a delicate line of pushing yourself past your comfort level
and being in a mess because of over confidence only you can tell the difference. What you do know is others are doing these routes daily so you can to
The downside of local is your on high alert all day every day not much freeway time
good luck be carefulRustyBolt, ncmickey and Canned Spam Thank this. -
That sort of mentality has helped me thru the years, knowing there has to be a way and somebody else did it before me.bottomdumpin and Cranky Yankee Thank this. -
I also just started my first real 'local' job hauling gasoline to service stations. There's only one correct way into these service stations and one error will screw up your entire setup, waste time, and make you look stupid in front of these very irritable gas station customers. It feels completely different to me but it gets better.

Hey a'hole, can't you go park that big truck somewhere else, you're right in my way and that's my favorite pump!!Longarm, bottomdumpin and moloko Thank this. -
Easy man, look ahead, and say to yourself "I can fit thru that hole" and just hammer down thru it...If you cant, you cant..
Double check what your doing..dont take a never taken street unless you know you cant fit under all the lines!!!
Watch Ice road truckers a few shows back...Alex says, "sometimes a driver just needs to grab the wheel and drive!!
Love itbottomdumpin Thanks this. -
Pretty much. Or these people think I work directly for the oil refinery and I am now a pump technician, a gas station clerk and a fortune teller all rolled into one. These people are complete idiots man, they'll smoke while I'm delivering fuel, approach me in my coned off zone to ask me stupid questions about irrelevant things I don't know anything about. They run over my cones, act 'road raged' with me for blocking off a work area. They'll park right on the fills and sit there on their 'smart phones' while I'm trying to get in to unload. Being the very first visible person at the gas station, these idiots can't seem to understand the concept that I am not an Arco/Chevron/Gas Station employee and they will complain to me about everything, and expect me to fix it. Like, dude gets mad that he can't get premium, or a woman gets snippy with me for not solving her debit card issue at the pump. These people are complete idiots.Nwernig, Canned Spam and Chinatown Thank this.
