When I worked for TMC a couple years ago the trainer I had was Polish. He worked for TMC for about a year and then he went home for a year. He had been doing this for 10 years when he trained me. He was a very good driver and an excellent trainer.

There are a many Polish truckers in the Chicago area also but I don't know a lot about them. Listen on the CB when in the area and I'm sure you can strike a conversation with them.

He's gotta get there first - UK is a looong way from Chitown. And, I know a bunch of US carriers operate in Cannukia, but I get the impression Adam wants to work for a Canadian company IN Canada. I could be wrong, though

I can't answer about the permit/visa... I know I have a friend in Canada who can't get a work visa in the states - but he's a computer geek, not a driver.

A good driving course is about 150 hours of instruction. That works out to about 4 weeks of 8 hour days.

School can cost from $2000 to $10,000. I'd suggest that around $5000 is reasonable.

Pay also varies, from company to company - for seasoned AND new drivers. The company I work for starts us off at 30 cents per mile, and by the end of the first year, you are at 34 cents.. a half cent raise every 6 months after that.

Some companies start you off with more - but they are very few and far between. Most of the ones I talked to would start you out with less. I talked to one where they paid new drivers 22 cents per mile.
