I agree. But the suits behind the desks look at it in a big picture liability issue. If they wreck at a speed higher than its governed, then the insurance wont cover it in addition to any possible lawsuits. Cheaper to hire another driver than to risk potential millions in losses.

I don't get it,why people drive for companies like Swift for .36-38 cpm?I got my license a year ago,before that I never even sat in a truck.After I got the license I bought biggest Polish newspaper(I am Polish) in Chicago ,made 3 calls was told to come for interview.Straight from interview was sent for a drug test.Then was the "training", i went with another driver OTR for 5 days.Even managed to get $200 for this 5 days.After we came back for weekend I was asked if I am ready.I wasn't sure so they told me "you can go one more time with other driver if you want to (without pay though) or you can start making money".I decided I want to make money so I they told me ok,on Monday you going to Dallas TX.W2 @.48cpm +$20 every stop except first and last ,counted weekly.Was given 2014 Prostar Eagle+ with 40k miles on odo and max speed 86 mph and on the road I went.LOL What am I missing?

One reason is because not everyone lives in a big place like Chicago and has lots of different opportunities like you do. You are a lucky exception

Yeah i guess I was lucky,specially with this basically brand new truck.I don't blame those Swift etc drives however them driving cheap make it indirectly bad for the rest of us as Swift and consorts can undercut smaller companies even on this .10 cpm driver pay difference.

Pay is relative to the person. One may be happy with 30 cpm another 50 cpm. I make 38 cpm . I'm happy as long as I get 2000 to 2500 miles a week. I get a military retirement check which does make a difference.

Diesel drinker, also you have to look at where you live and factor inf the cost of living you could take NFI for example the same job in Pennsylvania is going to pay more than the exact same job for the same company in North Carolina

And as far as undercutting smaller trucking companies, that's just business. For example look at Walmart and how they can undercut mom and pop businesses and put them under because in business size does matter. All of the mega carriers started off as one or two trucks as well they just grew and out did their competition it's just business.
