Still younger than all of you. Jeez..guess I'm the baby of the bunch! I've not even hit 30...

So. I learned an important lesson via podcast today. I've taken to listening to readings of short stories from older authors like h g wells, lovecraft and other fiction authors...

Today's selection was H P Lovecraft. Specifically, "The Shadow Over Innsmouth." Lovecraft was quite the descriptive author... Easy to make the imagination run wild.

I got docked 20 minutes early at the shipper and opted for fresh air and walked around the darkened docks. About the time it's time to knock on the door, a car pulls into the parking lot, music blaring.

I figure that's the crew to unload, so I go wait by the fire door to be let inside. It isn't long before the music grows louder and eventually just shuts off. Prior to that though, there was lots of hooping and shouting.

Then nothing. Keep in mind I'm in a mall. They turn off most of the parking lot lights and the stores stay dark until about 6am or later. So the only light is that of the moon, my marker/clearance lights (which I leave on while parked in a dock that forces the truck to sit out, exposed, to traffic.), and one sole parking lot light that isn't doing much.

My eyes are pretty good in the dark, so I see a tiny shadow of something that looks circular peek out and appear to roll down from the top of the docks in towards the dumpster and it goes out of sight. Just prior to this, the shouting and music have ceased and I hear no activity from the aforementioned employees.

I expected to hear a dull "thud" from whatever rolled down to the dumpster. It was dead silent. I heard nothing except the faint sound of my air bags trying to level out in the dock. When I heard nothing that sounded like one object hitting another, my heart skipped a beat at this anomaly and my brain went into overdrive attempting to sort out the cause of the lack of sound.

About the time I get curious enough about what the object was and start to descend the steps to investigate; a little shadowy body with faintly gleaming eyes peeks out from behind the dumpster and glares at me intently as if I have violated its space and peace.

Again, my mind begins to race... (My flight instinct is kind of broken...I'm probably going to be among the first to die in a horror film because of my extreme curiosity.) I'm frozen in a staring contest with this thing that appeared to roll down the hill a moment ago and is now staring at me...

*mew*. The thi...err..kitten says and then dashes from behind the dumpster, under my trailer and then out of sight.

Couldn't help but chuckle and it made me want to listen to more of the story when I got done unloading.

Got back to the yard just fine, dropped my trailer and grabbed tomorrow's assignment for Mount Juliet and Murfreesboro, tn. I'm looking forward to these coming holiday pay checks...

I'd rather be driving in it, then standing in it.

The one thing that drives me nuts about the South is that all their stores will not blast the a/c. No matter what season it is. They seem to be completely immune to the humidity and heat. :Ambulance car v2: Had to throw in the towel at Target. Thought I was gonna pass out. :binky:

@Vilhiem, have you ever heard of 'When Radio Was'? 780 AM (Chicago) at midnight, Monday through Friday. They play nothing but the radio programs from before TV.

Comedy, drama, sci fi, mystery, westerns. My favorite is Johnny Dollar.
