500 gallon fuel tank

Absolutely is Haz-Mat, weight doesn't mean squat! Tanks are based on quantity only, anything over; 100 Imperial gallons = 450 liters = 120 US gallons. Actually I believe most US guide books use 100 US gallons.

A bulk container (over 119 gallon capacity for liquid) needs to be placarded if it contains hazmat residue.

 

I'll take your word for it, but that seems pretty illogical. But the government is illogical.

 

So how do we run with full 125 gallon diesel tanks and no hazmat placards?

 

It's a gray area, but ALL truck fuel tanks manufactured since 1998 have a placard on the inside of the tank to be compliant.

 

If it was a new tank you could move it without hazmat. However, now that it's been used it must be placard.
