Quite a few shipping offices have a photo of some guy with a busted up face as a warning about thoes. It seems like only the big outfits can afford to ban thier use.

It wouldn't be the same without them.

The place I worked for doesn't like ratchet binders because someone that's new and not paying attention could over tighten them.

My load for western MN. Called the receiver and he said the weather was so nasty to not bring it until at least Wednesday. Oh well IMG_20151130_110514874.jpg

The hub seals for oil are different to grease hubs so they would have changed them over. I like oil hubs better because when you do a brake job it is a lot cleaner to do without grease everywhere. Only problem with oil hubs is you'll get a leak if the bearing adjustment goes loose.

I had a bearing come loose on me with grease hubs and this is how I found out. I much rather have oil hubs. 20150527_114300.jpg

Loaded this today for delivery tomorrow. 19 sticks of 18" pipe, 25 pieces of 12" pipe and a mold for 60" pipe.

When you haul different sized pipe you have to make sure that the cable you run from front to back actually touches all the pipe. Hence the chain across the cable to pull it down.

How would you or could you haul that load without the cables?

You could use chain but all of our trailers have 2 cables either in the boxes or on the decks. Most of the time they are on the decks running along the rub rails.

I don't think I have enough chains then. Probably take 6 chains total on top then 2 chains on the front and 2 on the back. If they were all the same size that is. Well maybe I have enough. I have 11 chains.

You also need a chain in the middle. You still need one every 10 feet. The way I do it is one in the bottom end pipe(front and back), one in the top end pipe and then one through the top pipe every 10 feet and then the cables over the top.

You do it this way you will always be good on your WLL. You need to have the appropriate WLL for each group of pipe.

For instance, on the 12 inch pipe the total load weight is 30k. I have 5 each 5/16" chains on that group of pipe and 2 each 3/8" cables for a total WLL of 29,500 pounds.

    Pipe 40 Thanks this.
