Not to be a nay sayer, but you do realize that's not a live feed right. That view may be years out of date, so it isn't always accurate25(2)+2, Big Don and Canned Spam Thank this.

dont know but i think i remember pulling that trailer when i was there lol. but back to the problem at hand, i worked for western express which was my first driving job. they told us in orientation to always follow that gps, but when it told me to turn left while halfway across a long high bridge on i 81 up in PA, i wasnt stupid enough to listen and see if the truck could fly. just like everyone else on here is posting, its not the company's fault. you got eyes so use them.Sneakerfix, Chinatown and Chewy352 Thank this.

I had my first damage mishap the other night.
In OK the other morning, fogged over with heavy drizzle... Visibility was terrible, actually had my windows down for better view of my mirrors.
A store I have been to several times
But because of the holiday, more employees cars scattered in parking lot.
Where I would normally swing to the left, do my 's' to line up and back in...
I had to circle the parking lot and set up with a right hand maneuver.
Just about two inches off the mark and knocked down a no parking sign.
No damage to truck or trailer or sign or pole.
Still DM and AM both say depending on how saftey rates it....
I'm facing five day suspended or termination.
A $10 sack of redimix and I can fix in an hour.
But apparently there have been stiff policy changes the last few months.
We will see how it goes, should find out tomorrow. -
My guess is Swift is getting tired of all the payouts and has decided to get tough. There is no genuine excuse for making contact with stationary objects. I have had close calls because of weather. In every situation but one I had help and still I got out and walked around. Were all human and we all make mistakes, but not getting out and looking and/or moving your vehicle into an area you have not cleared one day will bite you. I hope everything goes OK. If you get another chance please practice GOAL!!!!

I don't believe that Swift has or will ever tighten there policy's up so tight on accidents and small mishaps ( like knocking a stop sign down ) they after the first occurrence are going to start firing people. With winter here by the time spring arrives they would have a lot of empty trucks if this is going to be the case. To many of these guys come on here and leave out the other half of the story as to why they got fired...

I run two GPS units and use google maps/satellite view. There have been times where *both* GPS units have simultaneously been very, very wrong. It's pretty rare, but it has happened. They are tools. Use them, but don't follow them blindly.
That google satellite view (and the street view) helps immensely, by the way. You can inspect every single turn on your route to see if there might be any issues getting to the customer. You can even identify the location of the truck entrance sometimes. That comes in handy when you are headed to a large complex with multiple entry points. It's a great tool, but only a tool.
As a side note, smaller oilfield companies don't give a crap about DAC. Worked for several of them, and as long as you have a CDL and a pulse, you're hired. I have a clean DAC, but they never even checked it. Seriously. It's kind of disturbing, actually. Frac sand trucks and Vac tanks might be your best bet if any of the OTR companies consider you "not hireable". They will work your butt into the ground, though. You'll make good money, but you'll earn every single penny.
Anyway, good luck to you.Grijon Thanks this.
