    Hello

I've been doing a lot of research and I was looking for some direct info into some questions as well as my personal situation

I am from and live in NJ and I've been considering a career as a class a driver. Something that I'm concerned with is whether or not I would be able to find a job in the first place should I go through with the acquistion of the license. Last year, I had two accidents. No other cars were involved but both times a tow was required and I received a reckless driving ticket for the second one. I also received a reckless driving ticket prior to the second accident last year. Its been a full year since any accidents/moving violations but obviously my license as it stands is not clean. Not sure how many points I have but I am worried about struggling to find work.

I was planning to do private schooling but as far as company training is concerned, which option would serve me better given my circumstances? The school I have chosen has job placement and it significantly cheaper than most companies, on top of one on one training only in the truck. But frankly I don't trust them to have my best interests in the long run. That said I prefer private school but I am worried about not finding a job once it is said and done

Another concern I have is finding work as a cdl grad in the area. It seems most major companies are further south and west of NJ. While I wouldn't mind moving for a few months, in the long run I want to stay in the NJ area. I live in northern Jersey and want to finish my college education. At the moment it isn't going well and I will likely have to take time off school, so I was hoping to do trucking for 9-12 months, build experience, then find local work in the northern NJ area and go back to school. Unless i fall in love with the industry, in which case i would plan my next move. But is this realistic at all?

Finally, I was wondering if its at all possible to get weekly home time as a new driver? While I do want to make a living as a driver, I do not want my entire life to revolve around my job unless again I fall in love with it. Basically is it possible to be on the road 3-5 days, and be home 3-4 days as a new driver, or even home daily? If not its not a deal breaker as I am willing to do what I need to in order to gain experience and build a safe track record.

I know its a lot to take in so thank you for anyone in advance for taking the time to go through it all and offer advice.

Also I am 23 years old, no kids no wife/girlfriend, do have family but I'm not close with them.

Edit: I might have confused reckless with careless driving. After thinking about it the two tickets I have are most likely for careless driving, I'll have to get my driver abract to be sure

You most likely are gonna need at least 3 years behind those reckless driving tickets. Save your money and concentrate on college.

    This.
Not to mention, just by your hometime wishes, you will NOT be happy in this industry. It's not all rainbows and sunshine, so to speak.

The only company I know of that might hire you is Carolina Cargo.
    Call the company and ask.
Don't know of any other company that will even consider you with those tickets and reckless driving.
You won't be home often working there because you have to make 3 California turns between each time off.
    Good luck.

Is it anyway at all to improve my chances? Its like I said I'll likely have to take off time from college, but either way I'm not happy with my situation as it stands anyway. I had considered trucking a few years ago but now I want to realistically see if its for me.

Plus its like I said if I can't get the hometime I want it wouldn't be a deal breaker

Thanks for the info I'll look into the company, do you have any personal experience with them or heard any of other drivers?

It sounds like your best bet would be local work. Not sure how it is in NJ, but here in CA the DMV overrules the courts so time is the only thing here that'll clean your driving record AFAIK. Not all states are the same, though, so check online and see what's up.

Carolina Cargo is well known within the industry for hiring drivers with bad driving records and felonies. They will force you to do team runs to California and pay you well below the industry average. They are a last chance employer for drivers who can't get hired anywhere else. They take full advantage of the fact that you have limited options.

With that record, you need to NOT be looking at spending $5k or more on a CDL. If you already drive THAT bad in a CAR, imagine how bad it's going to be in a 70'+ trailer/tractor.

And the consequences for bad driving as a private driver PALE in comparison to what happens to you in a commercial vehicle. We're talking a fine vs. serious JAIL TIME in a commercial vehicle.

    Loook for another career. Please.

Well that's assuming he's still going to do those things. He's still young, as I am, and he's made mistakes in the past. Some people change and some people don't; hopefully he has and now he's trying to make something of himself.
