I am preparing for an IFTA audit, and one of the forms I have to fill out wants to know how often does the GPS unit ping locations to the mileage program, for example, every one minute, every state line crossing, every 24 hours, etc.I have a TND730. I'm sure Mark can help me out with this. Thanks!

Ping,, that is funny,, it is a receiver only... You need a transmitter to send a ping.

How often does it refresh the Lat/Long signal from the satellites would be a better way to frame the question.

I asked and am awaiting an answer.

Thanks for checking this out for me. I thought the wording was odd also, but I quoted directly from the form.We are talking Massachusetts here,so anythings possible!

The signal is received every second. Internal calculations are shorter to provide a more smooth flow to the movement that will allow a more precise calculation for mileage.

It would be interesting to find out why they want to know... probably if too great a time, then they will figure in a error factor and add miles that were not logged into the program.

Can you send me the Link to the IFTA page you are filling out?

    Some interesting reading.

Now to add to the bubble,, the mileage is gotten from the Map Database. The GPS simply records your position from Point A to Point B traveling x min in a segment, recording that length from the map database into the mileage log.

    billm89 Thanks this.

Thank you, that's exactly what I need. I could not find a link to the form I have, it looks like an internally created form generated at the DOR office rather than an online available form. It was mailed to me. I'm sure your observations about why they want to know are correct. Thanks again!

No form number,it looks like a locally typed form rather than an official state form. If you want to PM me a fax number,I can fax you a copy of the GPS related part of it.

My next question would be,, will they take your word for the "time" of the signal or will they need something Official to support that?
