What can one do for a backache? :biggrin_25523: I feel like an old lady and can barely bend over and am going crazy not being able to exercise. Any helpful hints?

When my back goes out a heating pad is the only thing that works for me. I know that you are not supposed to, but I sleep with one on it and in the morning I can straighten out again LOL Hope it gets better soon!!:biggrin_25519:

You might find a massage therapist in your area. I'm recovering from herniated disc's in my back and got one of these last week. They really work ya over, so far out of everything they've done to me this has helped the most. I have enough pains in my life, let alone my back hurting. Good luck.

OH I know what you mean about the back! SIGH

I try to sit different ways to take the stress off my lower back, with pillows and such, which does help some what.

I also use the heating pad, ice packs, when it get's real bad.

I take EXCEDRINS which do help with the aches and pains.

Taking Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate tablets don't help with the pain but its supposed to help with any disc issues and joint issues. I have been taking it for a spell now and don't see any good results yet.

Consider a visit to a GOOD chiropractor. I have a good one I visit every six months or so. When he did an X-ray found that I had an extra bone in my back. He said 10% of the population and 90% of his patients have this. What it does is cause you to walk a little tilted to compensate for it which messes you up over time. He gave me some good back stretching exercises to do that really help. I have let mine go to the point I lost all feeling in one side of my body. Another time they took me out of the sleeper on a board. Never again. I also have arthritis in my spine. I can work all day and it doesn't bother me but if I have to stand at a checkout counter for 5 minutes I'm nearly crippled. At night I can sleep 3-4 hours and wake up from the pain. I get up, walk around for 15 minutes and go back to sleep for another 3-4 hours.

    Cybergal :

Not sure what you mean by a spell. Glucosamine can take 4-8 weeks to start working. It works for some people and not others. I have a friend only 35 years old who takes it and says it saved him. I've never really noticed much of an effect. The sulfate in the tablets is important for some people. It acts as a catalyst. Ibuprofen works best for me. A friend swears by Aleve, which does nothing for me, for his arthritis. He says Ibuprofen does not help just as Aleve does nothing for me. We're all a little different and the thing is to find something that works for the person.

    1. Glucosamine really can work, and I can attest to that. The thing to remember is that glucosamine is derived for the most part from shellfish. So if you're even slightly allergic to shellfish, then you may experience an itchy little red rash. If you're not allergic, then have at it because it can work. Some Glucosamine is derived from corn. I have not tried this one, so you're on your own. The web has an abundance of information on this topic.

    2. As to arthritic joint problems, read about what really has become for many, including me, a solution: http://www.celestialhealing.net/applecider2.htm You don't really need the honey. It's just to tame the taste of the vinegar.

    3. General physical conditioning. I realize from reading these boards that the merest hint of health stuff can become a sensitive topic, but....

I use apple cider vinegar for prolonged upset stomach. Works wonders.

Did the glucosamine work right away for you VoxHaul? Glad to hear it is working for you. Never seemed to make much of a difference for me.

You hit the bulls eye with general physical conditioning. It is only a sensitive topic with those who need to hear it the most.
