Misesian, your a friend so ill just level with you. Stay away from the Maxxforce and all its reincantations, there is reasons why the megas are dropping them like dead weight. Trust me stay away, it will do nothing but bankrupt your dreams and credit and I don't want to see that happen to you.

The main problem with the pre SCR Maxxforce was this, http://www.trucknews.com/equipment/navistar-solved-egr-problems/1003063689/
If this has been fixed on the units they have there should not be any major problems. The engines had faulty components in the massive EGR system which led to the system destroying the engine and very poor fuel economy. I'm not sold on it yet. I'd have to see them, get the maintenance records, and make sure the required warranty work has been completed. -
It's not just the egr system. Ours were having issues throwing rods and running away when turbo seal went, the other problem is they are a nightmare to work on, parts cost more and labor intensive, It all adds up. The 3 that Idaho falls had wirh SCR would not stay running for more then a week. They needed up parking those 3 on the back lot and to this day they sit with just over 200k on them waiting for trade.drvrtech77 Thanks this.

Listen to him. I had the exact issue he described in the beginning of that post. 50k miles it ran away and put a rod through the block. Maxxforce is crap. Do not buy one, cheap price or not.

Well, I reached a shop guy with Conway and asked his opinion. He said with the updated EGR is was much improved but it was still in the shop MUCH more than the others and fuel economy was lower on those than other models. Oh well. I am still set on my Volvo.
Fajo Thanks this. -
There's a reason why the nickname for the max force engines is this..... Crap force

I have a connection coming loose on the Volvo right now. My DEF fluctuates between correct and empty and the engine wants to derate. So far so good but I need to get by a shop to get secured again.
And if anyone is interested, there is Testicle Festival coming soon in Montana.Fajo Thanks this. -
If you're not having any major issues with your truck, why not ask them to purchase that one since your very familiar with it.

I will be leasing this one in February after bonuses are finalized. I just keep an eye out for good deals. This truck is a strong truck, gets great fuel mileage, and besides minor sensor issues once in a while; it does great. I am already cleared on the owner op side to do it; I am waiting just to have enough money in the bank to have a nice cushion sitting there after initial start up costs.Fajo and drvrtech77 Thank this.
