I am glad to see some of this stuff on here. I have been with LS for six months now and I have gotten some good ideas from some of you and am glad to know that on some of the stuff I am worrying about that I am not the only one.

How's things on the open deck side right now? It's pretty much feast and famine on the van side. More to the latter since rates are in the toilet. I came here in the spring when the carrier is was with (Fikes) started to fall apart. I intended to just pull Landstars van until I could get a trailer but it seems like it's only gone down down down. Is it worth pulling LS flat? Anyone know the process for both getting/picking one up as well as dropping it off when you buy you own?

It's much worse on the flat side here at LS. If you wanna such all you gotta do is go take the securement course and they'll assign you a Flatbed. My buddy got a 2014 with 10K miles, Aluminum.

I was afraid of that. It seems like more and more freight on the van side is double brokered. I have a couple select agents I use and run their customers freight but I have to use the board to fill in the gaps. Most of what's available is double brokered. Nearly toasted my reputation with one of my regular customers last week when a JBH load blew up in my face for two days. Long story short ended up taking last 5 pallets to an LTL and running 70+ to make my appointment I had changed three times. I hate this feeling like I'm stuck in a hole. I was hoping it was better on the flat side.

Hey Sawmill is that you're truck in you're avatar? If so do you have issues with being heavy on you're steers because the fuel tanks are up front like that? I have the same truck but haven't started driving it yet.

Yes that's my jalopy in the avatar pic. I don't have any issues with weight. probably mostly because the tractor is so light to begin with. The whole combo weighs 33,200 empty and it's only that heavy because I pull an all steel stepdeck with ramps. Steer axle is hardly ever over 12K
