My truck is 04 670 with 475/1850 ISX with 13 speed. Inframe done at 1.370.000 but keept turbo since it was still good than i replaced that turbo at 1.535.000 due weak jake brake and failing VGT. Original turbo lasted 750k, last one that was reman lasted 785k and this reman lasted only 90k miles. Thanks cummins for such a geat job on rebuild turbo
I was doing 65 on I-70 30 miles befor Denver and soon as i heard snap and turbo whining and i pulled over. Pulled intake hose and looks like bearing is bad. You can tell there is alot vibration coming from turbo. It does have a lot of up/down and left/right play but fins didnt broke. I can spin it by hand but turbo wont make any boost at idle. Looks like accuator is in closed position at idle and open when truck is shut of. Compressor still spins for about 30 secomt after i shut engineoff. I think bearing on ht side is gone for ood. Oil pressuere is good so turbo was lubricated or maybe it was blocked and no lubrication. Maybe this is why i had some leakes on front covers, and valve cover gasket. I bet turbo had a lot blow by so it blow a lot of gaskets on engine that was replacled 2 years ago or 250k miles when i did inframe. Waiting on tow truck to be towed to Kenworth in Commerce City. I hope they dont find any more bad sh%t, these last a few monts were tough on repairs
I started different thread http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...tion-in-high-gears.297416/page-2#post-4954830 and maybe it was all because of VGT was sticking. Who knows. I will wait and see what new reman turbo will do
BTW sorry for my broken english
90k / 9 months old reman Holset turbo went south on ISX

They probably updated the tune when they did the overhaul and it probably runs a little warmer now.
-
No they didnt do any ECM work when they did overhaul

If you had the turbo replaced within the last year it should be warranty if it was replaced at an authorized Cummins repair shop. Any and all progressive damage should be covered as well. Make sure if you have oil in the CAC you get it flushed and pressure tested. If there are holes in the CAC they can opt to repair or replace under progressive damage. If you have oil on the intake manifold side of the CAC then the intake needs removed and inspected as well. I know Cummins is a PITA about only wanting to replace either the turbo if the vgt passes or just the vgt if the turbo passes. But the test is basically subjective to the tech. Demand both be replaced if warrantable. Rapid serv will come around but the Cummins tech has to be on the ball. Dealing with rapid serv is like you are taking money out of their pocket. I read your ticking thread but I'm on the fence this is the root cause. Ticking sounds are normally in the overhead but since I didn't hear it could have been something else.

No oil or any broken parts from turbo in CAC.
Only problem is i didnt use certified cummins shop when i replaced turbo 8 months ago and Kenworth is giving me hard time. I know if i take this turbo to Volvo dealership where i hought i would get new one or money back if i replaced. But im 860 miles away
Also Kenworth service guy keep saying something went thru turbo. I was like filter is new and if anything went inside it can be filter material. And filter is a few weeks old and i check it is good. He keep saying did they replaced air filter when they install new turbo, cummins wont covered if they use old filter. Its like you buy new shoes and you have to put new socks ONLY -
Update. Thet found little bit of some kinda liquid in exhaust manifold. They says it taste sween. So it may be ELC but i wasnt adding much coolant at all. He says they didnt found any at EGR pipe on intake side. It wasnt much so i told they to go ahead and finish turbo install
I get feelings they want my truck to stay in their shop little longer so i dont knowLast edited: Dec 15, 2015

Another update. Mechanic stipped threads from ex manifold that holds turbo. I dont know if he did on propose or not but they keep saying one nut was gone and one was loose. I know for sure those two nuts were torqued when i replaced all gaskets on manifold/turbo last year. Like i said this dealer want more work

If the part was bought from Cummins or Cummins certified shop will still have parts warranty. Just have to get the original purchase invoice from original purchaser or shop. Progressive damage can be claimed as "other claimables" that is if the turbo failed and took out anything with it. Will have to get a rapid serv claim number. As for the manifold that you have to leg wrestle the dealer about.

BS on the filter that has nothing to do with it. Sounds like the tech is not wanting to file the claim. Cummins does not mandate a new air filter on turbo replacement.
-
Now they saying i have to pay for everything and they will do claim with cummins and get money back when they get it from cummins
Turbo was bought from Volvo in Illinois and its cummins cetrified dealer. Little shop installed for me. I do have both receipts with me
I told them if i pay for everything than they gonna claim new center exhaust manifold, gakets, bolts and labor since it was with turbo.
I also called Volvo the sold me turbo and guy said they will warranty turbo and core but i have to bring core to they. I paid $2500 for reman turbo plus $750 for the core that i got back. Kenwoth in Denver wants $2850 plus $1000 core. What do you think
