What happened to this concept that a driver is solely responsible for the truck they are driving?
Every driver needs to understand if the truck is falling apart and has obvious violations, they are not to drive the thing.
I would rather be fired for a refusal than to deal with the dot on any issue like this. And believe me I have refused to drive a lot of customers trucks in the past three years.

If your a company driver nothing goes on your record, it goes on the company. Drivers do not have a CSA score, only a company does.
