Honestly, for me there's are 2 things that seem to identify "bad trucking companies"

1- a lot of old, wore out [company] trucks and just a few new[er] trucks. (poor credit and/or bad cash management and/or poor profitability)

2- a lot of dirty trucks. Most company trucks are excessively dirty with 3+ month old dirt and grime. (trying to conserve cash so they don't reimburse for washes and have no company wash facilities that work)

Hopefully I won't make a liar out of myself, but I wouldn't go to work for a company with trailer tails. I am also leery of any company with "Logistics" in their name.

    Signs of a bad company:

A company that's had their PrePass REVOKED by the DOT.

A company that gives the new hires brand spanking new mint condition trucks while the people who've put their time in(a year or more)get the ratted out,wrecked/rebuilt POS "hand me down" trucks with 400-500K miles already on the odometer with interiors that look like somebody used the truck as a "port a johnny"or they murdered someone in the truck.

A company that puts a satellite TV in your truck only to have the system crap out after a month and trying to get the truck routed in for repairs is like a tooth extraction(literally just as painful).

A company whose CSA rating is worth less than the Mexican peso.

A company whose trailers have so many patch repairs it's hard to tell if there's anything original on the trailers left.

    Urziel and Lightside Thank this.

1 Any company that uses "hire right"
2 doesn't take much care of their equipment
3 holds the first three weeks of your wages
4 doesn't pay for all services rendered
    5 promotes confusion
    6 quick to lie
    7 future pacing the drivers
8 has no vacations or paid holidays
9 has no health care insurance
    10 wants a 1099
    And the list goes on

More signs of a bad company:
Any company whose trailers are missing license plates but someone puts CARDBOARD on the mounting bracket and either writes the license plate number on the cardboard or writes it on the mounting bracket in MAGIC MARKER(ask DOT how they feel about that-I've seen it happen).

Any company who pays by EFS card but you can't get all the money off the card(thank goodness for direct deposit, lol).

Any company whose trucks that are pulled into a scalehouse because of said company's reputation for running heavy/overweight(guilt by association).

That card deal with no direct deposit is an instant deal breaker for me. No excuse for a company not to have direct deposit.

From digging through some company websites, it appears that technically, Werner does not employ any truck drivers at all. Anyone driving a Werner truck is employed by Drivers Management LLC, a subsidiary of Werner. I will assume that is a legal maneuver designed to put an additional layer of protection between an enterprise with high liability exposure, and a logistics company.
