Hello. Can anyone give us details on how training goes for husband and wife wannabe team with Abilene Motor Express? We have just finished school and have our CDL license. I understand training is ~6 months long for new CDL grads. Thanks!

@Chinatown ... Thanks for the heads up.
I just went through their training program and its no longer the six month program it once was. They say 8-12 weeks but there are a lot of variables within that timeframe.
I believe couples train separately with two different trainers during that time as a couple and a trainer would be a very tight fit in one cab for 12 weeks, but it's worth asking the recruiters. I would call and ask for Brian but anyone in recruiting should be able to answer that question.
As to training in general, there are three stages ranging from solidifying the basic skills and getting use to driving a big vehicle to full team driving.
My wife is looking at joining me in the truck when she makes her career change and I think Abilene would be a good company for a husband/wife team too.
If you have any more questions, as I know I didn't put a lot of details above, please feel free to either post them here or PM me.
There is also a rather long thread here that a few of us Abilene drivers hang out in... A few trainers post there too. I will grab the link and post it here for you to join our chats if you wish or get answers from a few more drivers within Abilene.
Stay Safe,
MDBarbee's Girl and SHOJim Thank this. -

Oh, and Abilene has a few lady trainers too... Not sure how many but the wife of a couple would not need to train with a guy. If that was a concern.

Thanks a bunch, MacDaddy! That helps a lot. We left a message for Brain.
It's great that you and your wife may be teaming soon. We cannot wait to get started and miss driving since we finished school.
Thanks again!
