Actually, unless you are willing to go into it full time and get a bit of luck on your side to score a few good paying direct customers, you would make just as much, if not more, leased to a good carrier

It's a very good area. But unless you can spend 60 plus hours a week making cold calls and knocking on doors, you aren't scoring very many direct customers. And from what I got with tor previous posts, you aren't quitting your regular job. so where is the time for thousands of phone calls and door knocking during regular business hours going to come from?

Basically what I'm saying is if you plan on just using load boards, you won't do any better than leased to a good carrier.

Just a question for you, are you going to beat the pay and benefits company drivers make at the company your leasing it to? I don't think you are, otherwise you'd be putting your butt in the seat of that truck. Anyone you hire is going to quickly figure out there's a better deal working direct for them.

Company I'm looking at is 10 min down road from me. It's 100% OO ... & I make 70k year as a P&D driver at my job. 9am start m-f ..weekends off. No I don't plan on putting my butt in seat. It's risk doing it do I wouldn't quit my job for the unknown...I "don't" need to get a truck just looking into adding income ... With minimal risk. "Every" truck is a gamble. Newer 60k truck or a 18k truck. U can get lucky or could get a complete lemon. So I'd go the cheaper route & if it was a piece of #### well I'm only out 18k. I won't lose my house & my credit over that cause I'd pay it off & move on. I've succeeded & ive failed at things. But I'm not stupid to go buy a 100k truck regardless of a Warranty cause a warranty don't pay the bills , moving freight does... So I here the buy new buy new & buy used & buy used from people. Having a 2000+ payment every month is huge... Having a 600-800 payment is something I could pay without the wheels turning if need be. Luck is needed, yes. Luck is also needed to get the miles to cover that 2000 payment b4 u make a dime. I actually drive a 2007 international day cab at my job & im only one that drives it. It stays docked on my door till I get their at 9 every morning so I know the issues ... I'm only driver. Been driving it since March & zero mechanical issues since I've driven it. Oil changes & not normal pm done. Only issue was heater needed fixed. But that's not a big deal. So it's a2007 & runs great. Luck? Sure. But everything successful comes with a little luck. Used trucks doesn't always 100% = clunker , nightmare. Just gotta be proactive ....
