Was wondering if coffee was allowed - good to know.
Congrats on the weight loss, and keeping it off

It's not a fad diet. This isn't eat only banana's diet. Atkins diet is set up to be sustainable. It has stages. Sure it doesn't work for everyone, well it does, but everyone can't handle it. It's not gorging on protein.
When it comes to weight loss and staying fit, diet contributes 85 percent to that goal. Surprising, I know.
I've been following this stuff for 20+ years. Jillian Michaels and her BS Biggest loser shows are ridiculous. That stuff doesn't work. Saturated fat causing heart disease, whole wheat bread and the calories in calories out model--are old, outdated and scientifically disproven.
Today it's all about controlling blood sugar, hormones, inflamatory response and just eating real food. Sure exercise has it's place. But without a great diet, it's not going to help anyone.
The Wild diet is completely sustainable and easier. It's even on a show on TV if anyone is interested.

Great thread.
Lost many pounds with Atkins. We still eat pretty close to Stage 1 as often as we can. With added veggies and fruit nowadays.
Here's a few items that are pre-prepared and packed for a week or more of work:
med heat buffalo wings and blue cheese dressing to dip
heroin wings (most hard core Atkins fans know and love this recipe)
scotch eggs (hard boiled egg wrapped in ground pork/turkey or chicken, shaped into a baseball sized ball, rolled in almond flour and seasonings and baked. (we dip in 3 cheese ranch)
prev frozen green giant style veggie sides premixed with chicken and some butter (mm)
home made soups and stews (heavy on the protein)
roasted greek ribs (baby back or side ribs)
lotsa lemon greek roasted chicken pieces
and (wife is typing today) I make a mean black bean brownie recipe for hubbys sweet tooth on the road that has no flour, sugar, eggs, its just beautiful. Everyone I give a bar to to try raves about it, can't taste the beans at all, so healthy and yet sooooooo dern good! Even kids are convinced its the real gooey deal.
We do treat ourselves to meals that are off the low carb charts from time to time. But for the most part. Staying on track has kept us fit and healthy for well over a decade.
Congrats to the original poster. That's a phenomenal amount of weight loss. Good on ya!Dreamboat Thanks this. -
Should have also added. We are hunters, so we tend to have a decent supply of wild meat in the freezer. Having a dehydrator is so great to make your own home made jerky for the road. We use beef if we are low on wild game meat. It's very comforting to know what's in that jerky, and a handy portable snack for hubby. He adds some hard cheese and slice of pickle to make it a quick meal when he has no time to stop for a meal.

Just wanted to share my success to hopefully help someone else get motivated.
In April of 2010 I went to the Dr for my DOT and the clinic found a little bit of sugar in my urine, but thankfully not enough to boot me. So they gave me a 90 and told me to follow up with my primary.
Primary saw me within a day or two and did my blood work. Long story short I weighed in at 454lbs and A1C was 9.7.
Complications from high diabetes took my SWEET MOTHER from me on 6/10/13 with complete renal failure. I tried to get Her to follow me on Atkins but she was just set to live out life how She choose and I understood but wasn't happy about it.
When my Mother went to be with Jesus Christ I had been at roughly 280, 174lbs less, for at least 15 or 16 months and to this day I'm staying about the same year round. I go off my new way of eating habit 2 or 3 times a year, Christmas (1 - 2 weeks), birthday (1 day) and vacation (2 weeks).
I'd still like to lose another 70-80 but not sweating it because with my weight loss has come the ability to move around and lift weights or hike or bike ride.
I know this is long winded but I've never shared my story before except 1 on 1 with someone talking about wanting to lose weight. Keyword there WANTING because if it's not bt your choosing it will never work. Like I always say to whomever that 1 person is for 2 weeks you will hate life, but once you start ketosis it gets much better and quick.
Simple diet to help you start your induction.......
1 - 2 gallons of water everyday to flush your system and 1 cup of coffee a day in the beginning.
Breakfast get the buffet at Petro or ayce omelet at TA, bacon & swiss is my favorite, but tell the waitress no bread, potatoes or grits please I'm going to make myself a salad. FYI I've only been charged for a salad or salad bar once or twice.
Now eat your fill on the omelets, btw I ask them to double my order for the 1st round since that's all they are making and they do w/o any issues. Here is the salad deal though it's not free food to eat as you feel because it and dressing have carbs so moderate the tomatoes and dressing, btw steer clear of all fat free or reduced fat crap, loaded with sugar.
Supper time same thing or do steak and eggs.
Think meat, eggs and cheese because you can eat all you want of any and all types.
BTW my A1C has stayed between 4.7 and 5 ever since 12/10 and no cholesterol increases except the good ones.
Good luck and may Jesus Christ bless you and your families.Tall One, The Benevolent Trucker and Skate-Board Thank this. -
Amazing progress wow. Thanks so much for sharing your story. Sorry about your dear mom. Good on you for sticking this out.

can you tell me how you did it . I'm struggling to trying to accomplish the same goal.

I did Atkins about 10 years ago and lost about 30 lbs. I wasn't driving then but traveled a lot with an expense account. That pretty much did me in.
This thread has inspired me and I started back on Monday. I actually think it will be easier in the truck than it was last time. I grilled up 3 lbs worth of cheeseburgers and a bunch of chicken thighs. Put a burger a chicken thigh and a scoop of green beans in a bunch of rubber made containers. Going to do the same with some bacon and eggs for next week.
Had a sausage and egg flatbread sandwich for breakfast yesterday. I had them give me a fork and ate it off the bread. Had spinnich onions and a tomato on it. I have a bad habit of spending my Loves points on candy bars. Grabbed a slim Jim type sausage instead.
So far so good.Dr_Fandango44 Thanks this.
