Independent Contractor Agreement. Any legitimate company who uses independents in their operations has one and requires you to sign it.

They can't charge you interest on something that isn't due.
Never paid a penalty either when I manually filled out the form and mailed it.
Last year I done it electronically and didn't pay them anything, times been hard.
So I still owe them 1150.00 . The years I paid in full on the 15th they never asked for more so I guess they're happy with what they got. Maybe if I had a 100 employees it'd be different, but since it's just me and the times I've visited them I looked like a pauper they know it'd be a waste of time. Went there once to make a payment guy gave me half my money back.

By reading some of the posts on this topic, I have determined that there are some here that do not understand income taxes, Social Security taxes or even Medicare taxes. These taxes are going to be paid, period! And if they are not paid on time, you will be paying penalties plus interest and if you are paid under a 1099, you are liable for the "whole 9 yards".

There is no interest till taxes are past due that's April 16th. The worker is responsible for all taxes except
the employer's portion of social security and FICA. that's 7.5% .
Now if you're an employee you have to file a schedule A to claim deductions and they have to be more than standard deductions allowed. So a smart worker getting a 1099 could file a schedule C and get pretax deductions
that would lower his tax liability and keep more of his money.
Now I know the crybaby crew will chime in about workman's comp and retirement and all the other things the nannystaters harp on because they are either to irresponsible or stupid to mange their own affairs.

When I did 1099 I paid my taxes quarterly, made it a little easier to send the IRS money four times a year versus doing my taxes once a year and having to come up with thousands of dollars all at once
