Ok, an old friend of mine called me earlier today, he has a very profitable niche market rare car business in South florida and does alot of business up the eastern seaboard to central US. he wants to start running his own trucks to move the cars around. Called me since I'm the only driver he knows but I really don't know much about car hauling.
He has the capital to go new truck/trucks and says he would vastly prefer to go new/warrantied, understands the costs of buying new equipment. Wants to run 1 wedge and 1 enclosed. Not sure if he's looking to buy both at once or 1 now 1 later. This would be a new arm of the business he started by selling old cars out of a wharehouse and now is a massively profitable company that sells alot of classics and pro level race cars.
Buying new how would you spec out a tractor for this, he asked, I didn't have an idea. He is not afraid of spending the money when it is needed.
He is going to be securing the monew in the next two weeks and getting the ball rolling after, I'm just trying to help a friend out.
Need direction for a friend

Forgot to mention. He will be paying drivers. He won't be running either truck

Tourist Town may be your source. Haven't seen him around in a while tho.

could always ask @Chinatown ??

He could always ask the dealership, all they would ask is length of trailers he's pulling, what the top speed desired is, what kind of terrain they'll be driving and weight in the trailers, they should give him the specs needed for the rears, trans and engine.

I dont think many cars weigh 4000 pounds.
10 car hauler would probably haul 40k pounds.
Enclosed is something that interests me..when the car costs $200k..might as well work where the moneys at. -
I would contact OEM's that specialize in building car carrier units. Your friend could lay out exactly what he is looking for, and they can spec the unit right there on a computer. Another way to go, is to attend any car show/auction and check out the Car hauler companies that specialize in this market, like:
Reliable Carriers
Horseless Carriage
Passport Trucking
Intercity Lines -
Same as the tractor, if he is going brand new the trailer dealer with help him with all the specs. He would just have to figure the max weight of the heaviest car he has/will haul(ed) and the can spec the trailer for max amount of cars he can handle per loaded trailer.
I would let the dealership earn the $$ on such a big price tag of I was your friend.
Hope it helps.
